I’ve been a Sprint customer for about 8 months now and I’m so glad that I switched from AT&T. I had been an AT&T customer for over six (6) years and I have got to say AT&T plans are expensive. They nickel and dime you for every function available on their wireless network Sprint’s plan and cost was and is still very reasonable compare to AT&T and also Verizon. With Sprint, I have not had dropped calls nor have had any data issues with the internet. The internet speed is extremely good. If you’re going international, Sprint is also accommodating. Sprint’s customer service has lived up to their goal of servicing customer at best.

I agree that the North American model of locking a phone to a carrier is dumb. My employment takes me around the world regularly. On one of my first trips out of the US, 18 years ago, I bought a GSM phone and have never looked back. I am a long term T-Mobile user and am pleased with their service and coverage, but I decry their lack of sophisticated handsets in America. All of my phones are unlocked GSM handsets bought abroad. I would never change carriers just for a handset. Like others here, I will snap up the first available unlocked GSM Pre handset offered. I have many apps on my Palm powered Treo, but will happily trade it for the GSM Pre. Windows Mobile – ugh, you have got to be kidding. What has the Palm management been smoking?

You left out the last option: Current/ Former Employees, who while working for the company watched it FUBAR every opportunity it had to get on the right track. Things like 65% of the phone not working in the damned office tower that we did Tech Support out of, while my Cingular edge phone held full bars IN ELEVATORS. Things like Sprint revoking fully functioning diagnostic tools to make our job easier, which would improve customer feedback. Things like pandering to the really poor people w/ terrible credit, who would inevitably get shut off because they could not afford their bill in the first place. Then, once they paid the past due, the bill was re-calculated, and the prorated amount would put them back up above their pre-approved spending limit, shutting them off again. Yeah, such a great company…

There’s no way in hell I would ever use Sprint after that fiasco. Plus, they have the worst coverage outside of T-mobile (as far as total area covered. As far ass signal, it’s terrible in doors), and don’t even get me started on the Nextel BS. Sprint Execs: “Lets acquire a competing technology that isn’t compatible with ours, that’s old, not upgradeable, and sink our whole ship!” And then they launched WiMax, which sounds great in theory, except all the real world trials have proved disastorous (Google WiMax trials in Australia for the results) and they completely ignore LTE, which all the other carriers are going with. Which one do you think will be easier to support- A global standard, or a standard held by a small handful of companies? This is why GSM is better than CDMA in the first place, and why approximately 85% of the nations in the world use it over CDMA… Duhh….

Luv everyone’s comments. I look forward to the Pre… I’ve had a Palm device for 5 years now, 2 with the 680 and previously with the pda Clie` from Sony. I think Palm is terrific, but when I lived in Michigan, we moved to a small town north of Detroit and our cell phones suddenly didn’t work at our house! We had to switch to the only carrier in the area, AT&T, and have been with them ever since. We havn’t had any problems with the network (although customer service is difficult and time consuming)and so we probably wouldn’t switch. I’ll probably wait until the pre comes to AT&T in a couple of years.

Nope… I’m going to wait for the GSM version. In Houston, Tx Sprint just doesn’t have the coverage in the outlying areas that I travel in.

I am also on sprint now. This spring I will have had my 755p for two years and will be eligible for a new phone. I’m definitely staying with Sprint and getting a Pre.

I’m certainly interested! I have Verizon and I was tempted to switch to Sprint for the Instinct but didn’t necessarily want to cancel my contract with Verizon. By the time the Palm Pre phone comes out, I should be near the end of my contract and it’s Bye Bye Verizon, Hello Sprint!

I’ve been without a service for some time now and have been looking for something to make up my mind. This phone is it. I remembered Sprint having bad customer service in the past and spent alot of time researching and talking to people who have the service. In the past year the service has gone through the roof and everyone seems happy now. Due to that I am willing to sign a 2/y the instant the Pre is released.

While I have a love-hate relationship with AT&T, I now have 3G access everywhere I travel. Also, because I have 7 lines it would cost me too much to switch to Sprint. I would look for a HSPDA version!

The networks all have their strengths and weaknesses, but for those of us who travel internationally GSM is a must. If it wasn’t for that and the fact that a GSM version is on the way I would consider switching.

Actually, I don’t like my phone, the Palm Treo, even though I’ve been a Palm user since 1996. But I’m on Verizon and not the least willing to switch to Sprint. Same reason I didn’t go for an iPhone. I don’t want to go to AT&T. Wish the Blackberry Storm had better reviews.

I’ve been a Palm and Treo user for years. Historically, Treos run on the major carrier networks. Not sure of the motive here with Pre but I can’t see those like myself switching to an inferior carrier for the sake of the device. I’d switch to the iPhone before switching carriers. But, I will wait to see where Palm goes with Pre as I don’t want the hassle of reentering all of my Palm data into the iPhone…

My contract with Sprint is up in May(10yr customer) and I had made up my mind to to switch to AT&T for the iPhone. With the announcement of the Pre I am going to wait to evaluate them. Should the Pre launch before May 1(I also see a May/June launch) I will have to hold off until my contract ends to at least have some options/leverage. I am now inclined to lean toward the Pre over the iPhone. I agree with some of the others in that all the carriers have CS issues and if the Pre is what they have pitched I’m “All-In”

So true. Sprint has it’s share of problems, but you can go to any phone related forum on the web and find pi$$ed people on VZW and ATT too. I TRIED to leave Sprint but ATT’s 3G coverage is suspect and Verizon charges too much and does not offer me anything more.

Bring on the Pre baby!
