Two points thought…
1 You have 14 days to test before activation (install it on a spare hd on the mce for guilt free testing)

2 Ms have confimed the right to transfer the licence up to 10 times, so you can spread the joy.

You can always buy an upgrade for your other devices later, and then you wouldn’t need the full-blown version.

I wouldn’t partition (not enough space with sammy), but get a nice, clean install.

Take frequent images and if things are looking good after a few weeks blow away the XP partition and use something like Partition Magic to reclaim that space. If you want to revert, blow away the Vista partition and reclaim space with XP.

Does your Vista edition have the MCE capability? If so that’s the machine I’d choose but I have a bias.
