Where ever your kid goes, VuGo
Tiger Electronics is hoping to cash in on the video iPod craze with the VuGo multimedia system aimed at kids. You can download videos, music and photos on the very basic VuGo device and play them on the 3 inch screen. You can hook the VuGo up to a TV and record directly onto the device. While the VuGo only has 128 MB of internal memory it accepts standard SD cards for memory expansion up to 2 GB. The VuGo is looking to sell music and videos on the VuGo studio on the product web site and the device will be sold online and at Target, Toys R Us and Walmart stores.

VUGO Rocks. 2 gbs Will boost this baby to 17 hrs of video. Sd cards are a must if you want that. It can hold 102 hrs of music with a 2gb sd card AND 20,400 photos or pictures. You can pause while you record live t.v in order to eliminate commercials and hold more. They also sell shows on the site but I don’t reccommend that. They’re free AND you can get what you want by recording T.v. Great Device.
I saw a TV ad for the VuGo this morning while watching cartoons (no, my teenage kids weren’t in the room). Cool looking device in action.
I want this and my b day is in 9 days but i dont know what type of SD card it takes send me a picture of the SD card it takes
After reading all the info about this device I want one ( for my 7yr old of course)! This thing is cool!
This Vugo is the best thing compared to a Ipoid i dont car what any of yall say
hey i want this for christmas and i also want more memory so i want to get the 2 GB. Where can u get the SD card? If anybody can send me a pic of it and tell me where u get it ok thanx.

I think the VuGo is the #1 Multimedia Player for Kids to take on the go!
I bought one for my daughter for christmas… I thought it was soo cool, that I set it up to work with her laptop last night, to see if how it works.
Don’t play mp3′s or wma’s all files has to be converted to a proprietary format. Takes a long time, software is sooo clumsy, no drag and drop to the program. Then transferring to the device takes even longer. 3 out of 5 attempts, the thing locked up. Need a screwdriver to remove the battery to reboot. Thing takes 4 AAAs, and drains them just trying to load media to it.
Sound Quality is poor, comparable to a very low quality mp3, video is poor, very poor.
I thought being able to record from TV, or downloading video from the website would make it worth the price, but since the video quality is soooo low, this thing is not worth anywhere near $100.
True enough, there isn’t another media player in this range that will play video, but this VuGo makes the others look as if they’re worth the money. particuallarly a PSP, which will also play video games.
i wanted one soooooooo bad but once i herd it was $100 bucks and only has a 3inch screen not for me i got a psp (best thing you will EVER use)yajust not 4 me well see yaall later!!!
well the vugo is cool and expensive and it can only hold 1 hour of video.is there any chips to increase the memory? if so contact me i would be happy to buy one with higher memory
if you guys already a little discouraged then the fact these 2gb sd cost as much as the vugo itself, ive checked a few sites and $100 is the cheapest ive seen for 1
I’m not so sure, since Kris Tyler(one who posted before) thought the product was awful and I thought the video quality would be just like T.V., so I’m buying a PSP!
u guys are all liars it is great worth money perfect so wta if screen is small it is the first time anyone has made 1 of these for kids
I hope none of you believed Kris Tyler, if you didn’t know the VuGo isn’t released yet some I’m glad Kris can all tell us what to think.
yes it is relesed its in my hand
for all of you who feel the vugo handheld system is a waste of time and money, dont forget you can always buy many cards and they do not have to be 2gb. If you read up on it, that is the max sd the vugo is capable of using.
If I were to put a 1 gb sd card in, would it work? I really don’t think that spending almost $200 is worth 17 hours- I don’t need that much! Email me! it would be much appreciated.
I am 12 years old and have been reading your comments but I don’t know which one to believe. I have seen many ads for it on TV and it looks so cool. If it isn’t very good I don’t want to be recieving it for christmas. But if it’s Gr8 I definitely want one. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!!
I have always wanted a VuGo, but all of you guyz are saying they’re so… stupid. Well I am still going to get one, HOPEFULLY!
I love the VuGo player!!! i can take it anywhere, even on my school bus. It is $100 less than an ipod and can do MUCH more. this toy is great!!!!
well the vugo ads on tv lok great> C’mon it cant be that bad.but then i dont no who to believe> HELP ME i really want a vugo but if its not worth it then why boter
hey my vugo is coming tommorrow and i know is gonna be tight and i don’t care if it has poor screen because at least you can see it and it is something to watch on the go it just probably not better than a psp oh well psp’s cost 300 dollars or something like that.

VuGo rocks! Its just like a PSP but better and cheaper. I am a 13 year old child and prefer VuGo better than Sony PSP. I am begging mom to get me one. Which I know she will! My birthday is coming Dec.22 right before Christmas and she is waiting till i go to bed to order 1

i don’t no what to believe about all these vugos. i mean some of u say they suck but it sounds like grown ups said that and then all the teens (like me) said they were really cool sooooo i dont no what to think. also how much are the memory cards u have to put in cuz im broke. but maybe my rents will get me one.
i want a vugo but…….is the PSP better? who actually has a PSP and a VuGo? i’ll ask that person. i’m 14
This thing isn’t worth $100, it’s just a PSP knockoff without videogames or funcionality at all. The screen is of terrible quality compared to PSP, it’s battery powered, not that pretty, well, just don’t buy this thing. I think it’s -ok- for really young kids who should not have such a sophisticated piece of hardware like the PSP in their hands and want some sort of media player in their hands BADLY, but this VuGo has far more drawbacks than pluses. I’d suggest buying a real portable console (like a GB Micro or a Nintendo DS), or some cheap mp3 player or cd player if you want music for them. Maybe a PSP if your kid is old/mature enough, but this VuGo thing is just not worth it. Avoid.
i think the vugo is really cool!in the t.v it sounds really! my dad is going to buy me one for christmas!corey i think you are wrong because i think the vugo is cool for a gift!
if all ya think the vugo sucks it doesn’t in all ya comments i really think the vugo is nice i am convienced to beg and get one.i am 9 years old .
i think they sound cool too. if any body knows when they come out plese tell me because my mom was serching for one but couldnt find one so yah. thanx.
mi friend got a psp in ny n bought it 4 like 100$ if i got a vugu i would waste da memory in like one day….
then why not buy more memory and have 17 hours of memory, i like to see you use that in one day.
Hold on guys.I have read that if you record off of a DVD,the quality is like 10x better. And 3 inches for a screen isn’t that bad, pull out a ruler!for something portable,it’s a pretty damn good deal.Plus,I’m sure that in about 6 months they will improve their sales by offering software that is more flexible.SO BE QUIET HATERS!!
ROCK ON SPANKY*- I AM JUST EXCITED TO GET SOMETHING THAT WORKS! CAN’T YOU ALL BE GRATEFUL?
I see mixed reviews on this VuGO. Looks like the people who actually own one do not recommend it, but kids with “millionaire” parents seem to love it. I think I will believe someone that owns the VuGo over someone that has only seen commercials for it. Do they sell these in stores, or do you have to order it from the internet? I would like to try one in the store before I pay $100. To some people, $100 dollars is allot of money to waste. Thanks for the warning, and Happy Holliday’s!
ads r made to make the product appear glamerous….notice how it doesnt show cost ($200)-save ur money or buy a psp instead-ull understand y if u read the really long comment farther below. this thing sucks at video and has practically no memory, not to mention how bad the audio is,this thing might sell priced @ $100 but it really isnt worth it.overall if u want something like this-pay $50 more to get the psp which can play video games.
I would like to know if the vugo is easy to use im thinking of buying one ??
the vugo is not whack nor boing. it is mad better than anything ya’ll kids had ever used. i dont care what any of yall say it is the best device ever.
Please show me a picture of the SD memory card and where I can purchase it to expand the memory on the Vugo.
hey grandaddy tree, you can see and get them at http://www.walmart.com. just type in vugo at search when you get there and then it will show it and then click on it and then scroll down to accessory’s and then there it is and you just click on it. also it says that the memory cards are only $80,so cheak it out!
i want one but i dont know because some people say there bad
hey cool man, just go with what you think, personally i think it sounds cool but i don’t have one, but still just go with what you think!if i get one before you ill tell you if its worth it!also most of the people that say it sucks are comparing it to a psp that cost like two times what a vugo cost!
hey guys, i just got a vugo and they pretty much suck there alright but the picture is blurry and its just not as fun as it sounds id rather have a ipod or psp!
hey how is the mp3 player?….no one talks about it so i guess it is good…..o yea…the only reason you think the resolution sucks is because you don’t have it on high recording……….please answer the first question
i think this gadget is pretty cool. it might just knock the psp off the market because of its cababilities and its price. ive been trying to get one since thats all i want for christmas but every its sold out. could u email me if u know where i can get one
ive tried to download off my desk top aplication but it keeps saying music recording can u post how to put the cords into the computer please post someone thanks
hey firmman, can you tell me how to download my files off the desktop aplication please just post here.
You youngsters who actually think this piece of crap VuGo thingy is any good…well..>_<..I honestly pitty you…so sad!
annnndddd,..why the hell would a 2gb SD card be any appealing at all?!?!?…it would cost and additional $100 or so more bringing the total price to roughly the same as a PSP….now because Im not a total moron…I would greatly prefer a PSP and all its glory along with all its games and functionality over VuGo{royal piece of plastic crap}
and heres a secret…if ur smart like me…you’d know of some pretty kewl hacking skillz in which you could get free game emulators…imagine!! playing all your favorite Nintendo and Sega games for free and shhh…The Legends of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and even Megaman…all free…cant do that on a VuGo.
Avoid!!! Its not worth a single penny in my book! Oh and on top of all its financial flaws…it’s also a huge piece of garbage quality wise even when compared to Nintendo DS so commen sense…VuGo is trash!!!!
oh… yeah im plan on getting one tommarow from my friend who is going 2 sell me it for $10 bucks he said he didnt like it but who cares! it seems pretty cool adn i hope 2 get it tommarow cuase its cheap!
P.S u people who wanted 2 know were to get a sd card u can bye them at walmart, best buy, sams club, etc. pretty much anywhere where they sell electronics. its a small chip like the size of a listrine pocket strip.PEOPLE STOP COMPARING IT 2 A IPOD OR A PSP OK. THE VUGO IS CHEAPER SO SHUT UP!!!!
I own this horrible piece of junk and I beg any of you thinking about getting one to think twice. Why does it suck. Boy, where do I start…1) Screen is HORRIBLE no mattery what people above say (my 5 year old cant even make out what he is looking at half the time) 2) Sound is HORRIBLE (clicks, clatters, pops, like rice crispies), and the #1 reasone it is horrible is that once you connect it to a computer, you are stuck with using it on that computer forever. Sure hope you never decide to try to use it on another computer because YOU CANT. What really ticks me off is that Hasbro decided to put a color peel off label on the screen to fool you into thinking it has a decent screen. The real screen looks nothing like the label and is far far worse. Finally, forget about their tech support. I could not get the thing to register on my sons computer and it took Hasbro 3 weeks to tell me that there is a problem and they are looking into it. Still have not gotten an answer!!! If you really want a GOOD portable video player recorder, get the Aiptek MPVR. For $30, it does a whole lot more and the playback is incredible!!!!. My son loves it.
alright first of all “cool cool” about your entry at the top were not all poor and its kinda sad that u said that because ur probably as “poor” as we are. also jagger it also pissed me off about the peel off label. i have one and trust me DO NOT get the wrong sd card cuz if ya do, u only get like a half hour more memory but as i said i do have one and i will admit its pretty good. as for u people who were comparing them to PSPs the PSPs are also bad cuz my frends have them and it has like 5 hours of battery and at least 3 quarters of my frends who have them it has broken at least once. in fact one of them broke 5 times and it is getting fixed again. the nintendo DS has 18 hours of battery and is a lot more durable. in conclusion i think that the VuGo is better than PSP yet worse than nintendo DS
i found the vugo at kohl’s for $64 on sale. it seems it would be a good deal for me since i watch a lot of anime which is on at 1:30 am. it will be nice since i have a 30 min bus drive to school and i can watch it on the bus. i have a SD card for my mp3 player which will hold a lot more than the normal space. these reviews are helping a lot for convincing my parents to keep it! thanx so much for your help!
i still dont know which to believe: is it good or does it stink? I want one, but im not sure who to believe. Post something here please! i really want one! overall, is it good?
Thanks
Terrible. This thing is complete junk. The sound is horrible, the screen is quite possible the worst screen on anything, ever. The picture quality on the screen is worse than what we had 50 years ago. The original gameboy is like an HDTV compared to this worthless garbage.
NOT reccomended. Please, don’t waste your money on this; get a PSP or an iPod video if you want all the features that this thing has, but with majorly higher quality.
Are you sure it’s not good at all? I can’t afford a ds (which i want too) or a psp or an ipod.
my vugo screen shattered and i was looking for a new one. if anyone has one or know were i can get one please e-mail me at megaop07@sbcglobal.net
Hey whenever i turn my vugo on it says something like ” Boot failure. Program upgrade failure. SD card absent” and it shouldnt need an SD card. And i just go it like 2 weeks ago…… I hope something isnt wrong with it. if you can tell me whats happening and/or how to fix it…please tell me. -chaparraltm@aol.com
the Vugo is pretty sweet even compared to the psp.I have both. Putting shows and movies on the psp is the biggest hassle in the world you have to name it something werid and put it in the right folder plus if you don’t buy a bigger memory stick you can only hold about 3 minutes of video. if you want to watch t.v shows i would get a vugo and for video games a psp plus the vugo went down in price 60 bucks!
YOU GUYS ARE ALL WRONG ABOUT THE VuGo
Is it good or bad??? I can’t tell by you guys. Can someone just tell me if it’s good for teens. It looks cool. But half you guys say it’s good the other half say it’s terrible. Some one just tell me wich it is.
The idea is great. But the VuGo in execution is a mess. It’s hard to record TV, the resulting video quality is very poor, and unless you want to drop $60 or so on a memory card there’s little space for whatever video you can manage to get onto it. The absolute worst part for me is that the VuGo can only interface with one – and only one – computer. If you get a new computer it won’t talk to your VuGo. That last part was absolutely unnecessary; I expect it was done for licensing purposes.
All in all, a nice idea that the engineers and marketing people completely screwed up. But if you have $100 to throw away, like to play with weird tech and don’t care if you ever get video or music out of it, then go ahead and buy one.
I dont care what you people say im 13 and i think the vugo is the best i bought it brand new for 50 dollars and 512 mb for 30 dollars
isnt anybody going to answer me or ask me a question about it?
I am selling my vugo, with all the cables, i think that I am going to sell it for $80, and it includes everething. It is almost new, I dont use it that much since I have to go to school, if you are interested e-mail me at octavioabrindis2@yahoo.com

okayy i have a vugo and it DOES NOT WORK!!!i am 13 yrs old and i got it for my 12th birthday and i hadnt had a memory card for in which you have to buy seperatly they make it sound so easy on the commercials but its not at all!! if you are thinking about getting one your making the wrong desicion they dont work and they are peices of shit

WHAT ABOUT THE TV-NOW THING.
Ok for an adult to use as a PVP it sucks bollacks, but for the average child under the age of about 10 it okay. It keep the occupied and they don’t mind the poor video playback quality. It’s slick design to look kind of like a psp and the vevamped TVNow selling at Walmart for 25 dollars and I was able to get it to read a 4gb SD card, 2gb more then the specs for almost 16 hours of video at the max setting according to the unit. The TVNow records with a line-in connection the same port records video and music the comes with the box. The SD Card is currently holding three full lenght movies (FFVII:Advent Children, Disney’s The Wild and Bratz Babiez along with two tv shows with commerials since you can’t edit the recording along with the two disc soundtrack of Rent and B-Day.
I got one of these for x-mas. i thought it was cool. then after a little while it got hard to use. Scince most t.v’s dont have a line out (none of mine had) it was hard to use. I did dry the Vcr and dvd players and they did not work well. i did play a vhs and recorded that one it and that was cool. A year later i found out a bout this gp2x. it is one of the coolest thing s i have ever saw. It can play movies, music, photos, and games. the only down side was that it can only play old games and you have to know the software lunix to load the games from the internet.it only costs around $200 bucks and yiu can use your old sd card for it. You have to reformat it so it can work. you would have to save the files on the computer. It is all worth it. Trust me I have one

Its a wreck. A disaster. The worst piece of junk I have ever bought. Even though it was only 20 something dollars at BestBuy I returned them both (I bought one for my 11 year old and my 9 year old). The screen Is horrible. It mows down your batteries like you couldnt believe. If you record “real-life” shows instead of cartoons you can only get a few minutes into the device (ten minutes tops). If any of you kids get one for christmass, throw it back at santa and call him a big fat cheapo, because it is one of the worst gifts that can ever be given to you. And those poor dads like me, who got sucked into the colorfull and completely false adds return them before christmass.
Sorry guys, but I have to disagree with some of the above comments. I bought 2 of these at Walmart when they were on sale for $25.00 each for my two kids for Christmas. I also bought a 1gb SD card for each of them. My kids LOVE these things and all of the kids on the block think my kids got the coolest toys. I’ve recorded StarWars3, Over the Hedge, He-Man, and several Power Rangers episodes onto my sons and have recorded Monsters Inc, Barbie, Care Bears and several other episodes onto my daughters.
Is the video quality great, NO. Is it good enough for kids to watch, ABSOLUTELY. We bought rechargeable batteries for these and get about 3 – 4 hours of playtime out of them before we have to recharge, which isn’t a big deal to me. We got more than our moneys worth out of these gadgets and people keep asking where they can get one for their kids.
You guys have to keep in mind that this is a KIDS TOY and quit comparing it to a DVD player. You are NOT going to get DVD quality out of a $25.00 toy. Keep things in perspective guys!! I’m very happy with these. And more importantly, my kids are.
Bryan
Ok, I rarely post but my son’s grandparents bought him a Vugo for Christmas and it is an absolute joke. I can’t believe that anyone would even have bothered to manufacture this device. Don’t buy it, in fact if you see one on the street, take my advice, just quietly walk on by.
All joking aside, I happened to buy a Disney MixMax at target for my daughter for $79.00 and this device completely obsoletes the Vugo for any amount of money.
To compare a few stats:
Video Resolution
MixMax : 220, 176
Vugo : 144, 80 (this is less than 1/2 the MixMax)
Internal Memory
MixMax : 512k
Vugo : 128k (this is 1/4 the MixMax)
Battery Life
MixMax : Six Hours (This is rechargeable while copying music from the computer or with a standard $9 USB car/ac adapter)
Vugo : Three Hours (This takes 4 AA batteries and a screw driver to change)
Weight and Size
I am not sure of the specifics but the MixMax is about 1/3 the weight of the Vugo.
Style
The Vugo and the MixMax are both cheaply made compared to the iPod but the Vugo looks like it is straight out of a cheap 1960 sci-fi tv show.
Backlighting
Using my untrained eye I would venture to guess that the MixMax is 3x brighter.
Software
I did not use the MixMax software but because it plays standard mpg and wmv format I was able to use Windows Media Encoder to quickly convert to the appropriate resolution. It took a bit of effort but I was able setup a windows task that runs in the evenings that will use Tivo Desktop to copy tv recording from my tivo to my pc, VideoRedo to convert from the tivo format to mpg and autostrip commercials, and then Windows Media Encoder to convert to the appropriate format. The only manual intervention is then deciding which videos to copy to the MixMax (while it is recharging).
To summarize: The MixMax casing is a little cheaply made and it lacks good software to make it easy to convert from mpg to a wmv format that is optimized for MixMax viewing but because Disney is using standard formats (hats off for this) there is a huge amount of 3rd party software available to help. The Vugo on the another hand… This reminds me of the something that I could have expected to buy in the late eighties when I bought the original gameboy or the sega gamegear expect they were more stylish and less expensive.
Just picked up the VUGO today for $25. Wish I had read this forum before I spent the $25. Its a waste of money. The screen is just pure garbage, I cant even make out whos who in the pictures that I put on it. The video quality is blurry at best and seems to have a tracer effect when the video moves quickly. Buttons and controls follow along with the quality of the picture, so again they feel like it might take about a week before they blow out. The sound……….oh the sound, its as bad as a 32kps recording, maybe even worse. I mean it was $25 but jeez, don’t frustrate yourself go see a movie or order a couple a pizzas and enjoy yourself.

Hello all, I have a TVNow which is a vugo just name changed essentually and let me tell you I think it is great. Granted I din’t pay $100 or something crazy like that (people should have known better than pay that because it was made like a video now and the quality is pretty much the same), I paid $9.00 for mine and man it is great. Sure the screen res isn’t all that great but who cares this isn’t a dvd player (why wouldn’t you buy a protable dvd player if that is what you wanted?)
This player lets you capture tv and play it back. I don’t use it that way. I simply get my videos off the internet or copy them from my own dvds and transfer them to my TVNow via an sd card. It couldn’t be easier and it is good for qick clips to show your friends etc.
in conclusion if it is under $25.00 get it, thats cheap for the ablility to quickly watch some video and the kids love it.
Bought this in dec 05 as a 100 gift, sd cards 100, plus case 15. for tha amount i cold have got an ipod or seomthing a whle lot better. It sat around, not one of my 5 kids liked it. COMPLETE GARBAGE. Matter of fact you can buy one on ebay for 5.95. Really go check it out. I was trying to think of a use for it maybe download a podcast and watch it while the kids are at soccer or bb practice? haha
I have a VuGo and I had to give it to my little sibling. I mean i bough it for $150, and it was not worth my money. If you buy less that $50 I would reccomend it because you can put pictures, videos, and music. I still don’t know how to record from the television. The VuGo is also very big. I have a PSP and it is way better. I mean I cannot say that I do not like the VuGo because I did kind of like it. The battery problem was not a problem with me because I bought rechargable batteries ( These batteries are great). I did not mind the sound when I had headphones on, but it was kind of blurry when It was VERY loud. The pictures were kind of blurry, but you could see them. I also think that the VuGo company stopped manufacturing them because there was something wrong with them. If you go to the official website at http://www.vugo.com, you can see that there is a post that says that they are going to shut down there website. If you have a VuGo I wouold highly reccomend that you go buy some videos. The videos are really cheap and they start a .99. The 30 minute videos are about 3.99. They sell cartoon network and nickelodeon videos. I would rate this item a 3 out of 5. Thank you for taking your time reading this. I hope that you find this information helpful.
THIS THING IS A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!! Do NOT buy it, Mac users can use it, but the sound quality sucks, and the picture sucks, the memory is SOOOO small, and GUESS WHAT???? Dell users CAnt even Use one!!! I tried it and my computer didn’t recognize the USB cord. ONE LITTLE DETAIL THEY LEFT OUT I GUESS! And now that i spent SOO much time trying to get it to work, No ONE WILL BUT IT ANYMORE! I bought it for $125 and now they sell it on Ebay for a max of $10. Now, I’m stuk with a screwed up piece of crud, which I never ONCE got to use, and I wanted it SOO much last Xmas that That was the only toy I got becuz it was SOOO Xpensive. Should have gone with my choice #2: Nintando DS.I REPEAT: NEVER BUY THIS ITEM!!!
