You’re absolutely right! Moblin and other Mobile Linux distro are around the corner. And they are all developed around touch. Given the quality of the UI of their big brothers, I am confident we’ll see something very competitive to Vista :)

As for handwriting recognition… YES… there are no good solutions just yet.

Here’s a thought… Let’s kick the worst operating system ever out the door so manufacturers can make mobile devices however they want and load them up with a good variant of Linux so they will be cheaper and more reliable.

Diamondville is just a Siverthorne permanently stuck on 533MHz FSB and and a normal Northbridge and Southbridge combo (the usual GMA950 + whatever set up normally) instead of Poulsbo (North and Southbridge combined into a legacy free single chip).

So unless you are talking about a dual core variant of the Diamond, it’s just as a pitiful weakling as it’s Silverthorne brother as a CPU. The Mated GPU part to Diamondville (GMA 950) would be more capable of Vista than Poulsbo of MIDs and UMPCs however.
