I simply do not have the cash to blow on the Apple tablet. Given the network issues that the iphone has experienced it would be insane to get one as soon as it is released. Also, it hasn't even been announced. I already have a mac mini, a dell laptop, a desktop machine with 1 windows and 3 linux partitions so naturally I will probably get the Apple tablet and pre-order it from Apple's site a week before it comes out.

And then go learn all the other crap required by the Windows trick bag - and the lack of compatibility with so many other easy to use devices.

But, then, being smarter than all the people making money from iTunes through iPod to OS X - you already own all the other crap you have to kludge together to get half the ease of use.

Contempt breeds feelings of superiority - but, not good software.

I'm pretty well set up, having used 2009 to replace a lot of old tech. A new HP Pavilion desktop for heavy work, an Acer 1410 for portable production (Windows 7 and a Bamboo tablet make this a very useful tool) and a Viliv S5 knock-around portable consumption. Topped off with a Verizon MiFi I'm pretty well set for the year.

If I do buy any tech at all this year it will most likely be a replacement for the Sprint Touch.

After Last year where I was unemployed for 7 months. I am hoping to have the money (after catching up my debts) to upgrade my Core Solo Mac Mini to the Newest Mac Mini. I Hope to replace my 16 GB iPhone 3G with a 32 GB iPhone 3GS (or the newest model this summer). I would Love to get a 17in Mac Book Pro ( I used one for two years at my last job, Lost the laptop when I was forced to leave.) I like to get my hands on a Dell Mini 10v (even if its gently used), to replace my Acre Aspire One AAO150.

I'd like a 7-10" slate that is a primarily a good e-reader and media player in a lightweight form factor, but which can also competently do web browsing, cloud computing and office applications without a long boot up to get going. It needs to travel well, with good battery life, and be fast and easy to use. I'll add a portable keyboard and mouse of some sort, and it will save me the trouble of booting up my laptop just to check web sites. (I now often resort to my Blackberry for just that reason, but it's not the best web experience.) Am likely to jump on one as soon as I find a product I find that's priced right, has the needed apps and "feels good" to me. But I'm also very picky about my electronics and fickle wrt my devices tastes, so we'll see what happens. :)

I'm pretty content with what I have currently.

The only device I'm looking for is a tablet PC. I'm hoping the Apple Tablet will run OS X and decent hardware specs.

If not, I'll be looking for a Windows one which does the following very well:

In order from most important to least:

- Great battery life
- Decent specs (eg. 2 gb of RAM, 250 GB hd or more, ION or Tegra, etc.)
- Read ebooks and PDF
- Internet functionality (RSS, watch video, use IM, Exchange, web, etc.)
- Ability to run and multi-task my daily apps (email app, RSS app, mp3 app, BT app, etc.)

The primary purpose would be to consume media content, especially ebooks. I'm leerly about the Amazon Kindle simply because I've read that the PDF support is flakey. I know about Savory but there's no version available for the International Kindle. And as being a Canadian, I think that a lot of the value in the ebooks pricing will go away as the USD corrects itself.

I've noticed other commentors have similiar needs to mine and shared some tablets they're considering. Hopefully, one of them will meet my needs should the Apple tablet fail to deliver.

I'm not expecting to buy, but if a good deal comes along and/or something dies...

1) Verizon Mi-Fi: Still not convinced I want to deal with a device that I have to worry about power and battery life, but there's a lot about it to lust after.

2) Dedicated e-reader. Like others, I'm holding out for a color e-ink device, preferably with native PDF and .doc support. I think that e-book readers are on the cusp of breaking wide open, with the next two years seeing vast leaps in their technology. Of course, whatever we buy will be obsolete in a week.

3) May upgrade my iPhone 3g to 3gs. May not.

Since I bought my Samsung N120 netbook a few months ago, I couldn't be happier with it. Really. Couldn't. PineTrail doesn't tempt me. My aging Fujitsu T4020 tablet is sitting unused and I'm not actively looking to replace it. Amazing.
