I’ve been using this since they invited me several weeks ago. It is very much a beta, so be warned.

Also, if you used to use EverNote 2, it’s Not The Same Thing. It’s pretty close, but the big idea is that it’s everywhere, not that it’s a crazy auto-organizing widget that plays real well with GTD. EverNote 3 is one of those “iMovie ’08 vs iMovie HD 6″ kind of things.

(If you aren’t a Mac OS X user, iMovie ’08 is a different application with a different intended core user than previous iMovie versions. Think ‘I want to make a video to put on youtube’ vs ‘I just want to make a video’)

I’ve been using Evernote 3.0 Beta for about a week-and-a-half. It’s a very cool application and I am amazed at how fast the web interface really is. Even the searching of graphics on the web is indexed very quickly and is incredibly good at recognizing even the most difficult text.

Though I generally like the “layout” of OneNote a little better, I really like using Evernote as well. In fact, I tend to use both at the same time for different reasons. The OneNote Notebook/Folder/tab/page layout lends itself a little better to the way I think. But the categorization features and quick access tape-strip of Evernote is excellent for finding materials when you want to browse instead of search. I especially like the timeline.

As Lee stated, above, the additional features are what OneNote should be. I’ll be interested in seeing what the next version of OneNote brings. I’m guessing it will being making use of Office.Live.COM features to do something similar to what Evernote has now. if they bring OneNote to the cloud, they’ve got a good competing product. However Evernote wins the differentiating features of the browse/timeline functions – hands down.

I also just started playing with this over the last few days and am really liking what I am playing with. The ability to have all my notes accessible by notebook across platform means that wherever and whatever machine I happen to be working on at a particular time means that I can access my notes and add or edit them without having to folder share or sync or any of that other stuff that I don’t want to do.

In many ways, to me, this is what OneNote should be -

Great link Kevin, just picked it up from GBM too. Any idea if this is quite data transfer intensive? I have two HSDPA plans each with a 3Gb ‘fair use’ and while I tend to be well under each every month will need to see what impact this might have.

Will certainly be giving it a go on Desktop, Laptop, UMPC and Windows Mobile. If it keeps all that in Sync, which looks like it will, I’ll be impressed.

Is there anyway to import Onenote data? I’ll have a search of their forums.

I’ve been using the Evernote beta for only a couple of days, but I love the web syncing and that I can even configure my iPhone to sync with Evernote using IMAP. Definitely worth checking out.
