Voodoo Envy 133 reviewed- “The one I’d buy”
Today’s buzz in the notebook world is all about the uber-thin Dell Adamo. There is something about super-thin, ultra-light expensive notebooks that get our geek juices going. One such notebook that has been out for a while is the Voodoo Envy 133. This baby is comparable to the Adamo in overall dimensions and HP (owners of the Voodoo line now) have packed a lot of juice in that small form. Dwight Silverman of The Houston Chronicle has gotten to play work with the Envy and has published a review of the notebook.
Dwight seems to be quite taken with this small form factor and how mobility is a big factor in these high-priced notebooks. The price for the Envy is comparable to that of the Adamo, which is pretty darn high by today’s standards ($2,000-plus).
I don’t think Dwight has played with the Adamo from Dell yet but the two notebooks share so many similarities that it is natural to compare them. The biggest difference I spot is the much faster processor in the Envy- 1.8 GHz vs 1.4 GHz (maximum) on the Adamo. Check out Dwight’s review to get a feel for the Envy in action. I find this statement by Dwight to be pretty telling:
If I were in the market for a traveling machine with few compromises and head-turning design, this is the one I’d buy.

I know you guys said it had an aluminum skin yesterday but at four pounds and limited clock rate I’m wondering if it’s skinned in steel instead…
Voodoo envy 133…been out for awhile…ever wonder why you dont hear more about it? Pretty poor battery life (3 hr or less – they actually gave out a free extra battery at the start cause people were so displeased with battery life), way to expensive, and did you see how big the “power/wifi” brick is.. (why have this sleek light weight machine only to have to lug around this huge power brick?) I’d be surprised if they have sold more than a thousand of these….
It looks good but it isn’t “no compromises”: video outs are… a single hdmi and an obsolete vga connector? I am looking for a no-compromises laptop but that means just getting what I expect from a cheap desktop, including dual digital video out.
I don’t mean to knit-pick but 2kg the Adamo is hardly ultralight. Once you add the power cable and spend some time walking around with that on your back you wouldn’t even say it’s light.
