Vista Fails to start after BIOS upgrade:

Well I think we have come across a collosal Bug with vista and would love to know if there is a solution or when microsoft will provide fix.

I have a Multiboot system running xp pro, Vista ultimate x86 and Vista ultimate x64, on an ASUS K8V-MX Mainboard: So I updated My Bios and both versions of Vista boots to same point and Stays there, there is the odd intermittent hdd indicator flash and thats it. XP still works fine So I reinstalled my old bios and vista worked perfectly again, so I Updated the Bios and Installed Vista on another partition and the New install of Vista worked fine with the new bios and also worked fine when I went back to the old bios. I tried the Startup repair on both versions, the x86 verison done all the tests and logged no problems, the x64 version reported Unknown Hardware and Unknown External hardware as the possible cause and that vista could not repair the installation.

In Safe mode the verbose logging showed Driver “CRCDISK.SYS” as the last Loaded and thats the last operation before it fails, the next phase would usually be intialization of the Mouse thnen Gui and logon screen.

Conclusions: I dont believe this has anything to do with Oem equipment as vista installed fresh with the new bios and works perfectly, So it seems that there will be problems if users want to use a new bios unless Vista is installed clean with the Bios update already installed. This has left me anoyed less to say as i needed the bios update for the added functionallity (my digital tv works perfectly with the new update) I really did not want to make fresh installs of two systems as you know it takes hours to put all your software back on.

I even restored a full backup just to see if there was any corruption caused by the Update but the problem is still there.

So does anyone out there have a fix???? would be greatly appreciated thanks.

(I Rebooted my machine several times but it only left me with sore toes and dents in the case.)

spinedoc, would you point me to that Omnipass app with a URL, or could you forward it to me via email? I just checked the Fujitsu Asia site and I can’t find it. Would much appreciate your help.

Finally found it, version 5.00.13 from the Asia Fujitsu site. Works perfectly.

BTW JK awesome site, you were the main factor in my purchasing my 1610 and fearlessly upgrading it to Vista.

spinedoc, There is a Vista fingerprint app that I see Fujitsu has now removed from the download list. The XP app will not work on Vista. Check one of the other Fujitsu sites and see if the app is s still available there.

Anyone else having trouble with Omnipass on a vista installation? I upgraded and installed all the vista drivers including the fingerprint driver. I downloaded and installed the Omnipass software under the XP software from Fujitsu (assuming there is no vista omnipass software?) and I restarted.

Starting omnipass I attempt to enroll a new user, put in my login name and password and click next. Omnipass then sits ther with a spinning hourglass and a “Please wait while your password is verified…” It just sits there forever.

Any ideas?

This is interesting. I note that JK has posted that he has Vista working on his P1610 relatively fine including the fingerprint scanner. I’ve typing this in XP, about to take an image to get here again quickly and then I’ll try to upgrade to Vista.

I’ve got Vista Enterprise dual-booting on my R2H. It’s painful. My WiFi NIC disappears from Device Manager, I never know which resolution is going to work right after a reboot, and the touchscreen cuts out. I suppose I should just wait for Asus to release Vista drivers, but I think we’ve waited long enough.
