Vista bricked my xv6700- today might be a good day for a new phone
It’s a long story that I will steel myself to tell one day, but the gist of it is Vista and the Windows Mobile Device Center combined to turn my lovely xv6700 smartphone into a brick. It just sits there staring at me forlornly, no longer able to take care of itself. It’s on total life support. So sad. So I asked myself, WWJD (what would Jobs do)? They say that all things happen for a reason and suddenly the way forward is clear.
So it is time to get a new phone today, an auspicious day to be sure. I look at photos of Matt Miller camping out in front of an AT&T store to get an iPhone and I say to myself, "Self, your phone is a brick which is even slower than EDGE on a bad signal day. Choose the red pill".

I think we all knew Matt was going to get the iPhone. He said he was 75% against getting it on MTR. I think he really was 98.78% on getting it.
This guy is a true geek. But I must admit. From his pictures, he is the toughest geek I ever seen.
Hey James don’t give up on your phone. Try to reflash it. you’ll be Surprised, it might come back to life. LOL
HG
I think this is James way of rationalizing. I heard that he “accidentally” ran over the phone with an ulterior motive…..
iPhone (the cheap version): 499$
2 Yrs plan: 59.99 * 24 = 1439.76$
one time activation fee: 36$
Grand total: 1974.76$ (or 987.38$/year)
Well the iPhone is definitivelly not targeted at cheap/poor users like me :)
And your dog ate your homework!
Woooohhhh… woooohhhh… Jaaaames, this is the iPhooooone calling to yooooo. Please pick up the signal! Wooooohhhh… wooooh!
And by the way, do it at an Apple Store where you can buy two. Then send one to Mike Cane.
Heh-heh.
Clearly the problem is you were using Vista and Windows Mobile Device Center. This never would have happened if you were using the rock-solid combination of XP and ActiveSync. (And if you believe that, I’m sure you won’t mind picking up an iPhone for me.)
Oh ho, another MoTR host succumbing to the iPhone? :D Actually, you have an N95, what’s the problem? It’s not like you’re going to get eReader working on an iPhone. :)
I don’t quite understand all the price babbling.
My 8525: I think I paid about 400 dollars
My half of a family plan + data: about 60 dollars a month
Activation fee: 36 bux
And why is the iPhone more expensive? Oh wow, 100 dollars more! omfg! Nevermind my plan is 5 dollars more a month, which events it out over the 2 years.
I “bricked” my 6700 with XP. Turned out I just needed to stop using my silver cable and get the one that came with the phone (or a similar one) and re-flash. For half a day, it was just showing the serial/usb 1.00 message on a dark screen, and then I found the answer after extensive Google searches.
