I’d be willing to help in terms of setting a forum up. I got a few I’ve been working on. As long as you don’t use phpBB I can help.

And there are certainly forums out there that require minimal tweaking like punBB (www.punbb.org)…

Kay, to tell you the truth I don't much care for Yahoo groups and much prefer a real forum. The problem is one of time- Yahoo took 1/2 an hour to set up and very little time to maintain. A real forum would take a much larger time investment. I set this up as an experiment to guage reader interest. If the interest is high enough then the real forum becomes worth the time to get it going (and maintain).

jk, just curious – why is a genuine forum not an option? You could use freeware like phpBB (which I dont like) or wBB (yes, yes) or vB (oh yes) and get some cheap and I mean dirt cheap hosting?

I’d rather comment in a _real_ forum, and I really dont feel like commenting in Y! since I dont like it.

PA, I agree that Yahoo Groups are not as good as I would like it to be and I did consider the beta Google Groups. I know a couple of people who tried GOogle Groups and went back to Yahoo due to problems since the Google Groups are still in beta.

I am familiar with Pixelator and Geektopic but it is necessary for me to host this on a site that I not only retain control over the forum but also ownership of the information. This is critical since the forum is so tightly linked with this web site.

Any other place to hold a forum besides YahooGroups? The search function is horrible there and it's very restrictive. Have you thought about working with Pixelator at his forum? He asked me to mod it a while back but I was too busy. His forum is slow, but it's a phpPBB site: http://www.geektopic.com/forum/
