Verizon XV6800 gets software patch for keyboard issues
Yikes, I actually didn’t know there were any issues with the slideout keyboard on the XV6800 from Verizon Wireless. The good news is that there’s an update from UTStarcomm that makes things a little better. This isn’t a firmware update that wipes out your whole device and causes you to restore apps and data; it’s simply a patch of some type. Since I don’t have an XV6800, maybe one of the readers can help explain what issues there are with the keyboard? It’s a shame because I loved the keyboard on my XV6700, which was the predecessor to the current device.(via Mobility Site)

How odd. I have an XV6800 (for about a month now) and haven’t noticed any keyboard issues. Very curious what this patch does.
The keyboard didn’t work with some applications. Like starting a RDP session or Putty. I have the Mogul which is the Sprint counterpart.
Here’s a post detailing the issues.

the reason for the update is for the third party applications. I.e. Live Search, Yahoo Go, ect.. When in these applications the alt key stays activated regaurdless if you try to disable the key or not, after you install the patch it will resolve the issue, however it is not written into the registry, which means, when you performa “Clear Storage” or a Hard Reset, it will wipe off the fix. Hope this proves helpful.
