Will Google Debut the Nexus One for Verizon Tomorrow?
Just because there’s no March Madness action today, it doesn’t mean we can’t have fun playing prognostication exercises. Besides, I’m sure quite a few folks that picked Kansas to win it all could use an easier forecast question. In that vein, how about a simple little poll with regards to Google’s Nexus One on Verizon Wireless? I think it will happen tomorrow for a few reasons.
Early rumors tagged March 23 as the date of availability and although Google hasn’t confirmed that date, it coincides nicely with the first real day of CTIA activities. This is the biggest telephony trade show in the U.S. While Google isn’t exhibiting at the event, bear in mind that they didn’t show any wares at January’s Consumer Electronics Show either. In fact, it typically doesn’t attend these types of trade shows. Yet on the first day of CES, the Nexus One for T-Mobile was announced — I remember it clearly because I ordered one from my phone as I waited in the taxi line just after landing in Vegas for the CES.
Google has always said that a Nexus One for the Verizon Wireless network will arrive in Spring 2010, and that season just kicked off this weekend. Of course, Google has nearly three months to meet the Spring claim, but there isn’t another or bigger U.S. phone show this season. Now is the perfect time to make the announcement, assuming the phone is ready. And we already know that a CDMA phone very similar to the Nexus One ran through the FCC certification process last month, so the timing all adds up. I’m picking tomorrow for the win — unless Google pulls a fast one and announces it later today, that is. How about you?
The big unknowns — aside from the release date, of course — are the details of the eligible plans and the unlocked nature of the device on Verizon. And on Sprint, for that matter, since both carriers use a CDMA network. Sprint has already mentioned how well the Everything Data 450 plan will work a Nexus One but Verizon has stayed mysteriously mum, with very few statements so far.
I really hope I can buy it tomorrow!
me too
I will wait for the HTC incredible coming to verizon, it blows the N1 out of the water. I hope they announce that tomorrow.
and why do you think that?
Yeah…why would you think that incredible would be better than N1? If I remember the specs, it is actually underclocked, although the latest rumor says it may go back to 1Gz…
The underclocking still has not been confirmed but you have a good point. If you like Sense UI and want a bit better of a camera, Incredible might do it for you.
The Incredible will have a 8mp camera (Nexus has a 5mp) and comes with Sense UI (Nexus does not). I still prefer the N1 based on looks! And we all know looks matter!
omg yesss nexus one!!! and no way the nexus one is so much better the design everything its perfect
Not interested, but wake me when the HTC Supersonic is announced Tu or Wed for Sprint. It’s supposed to be the first 4G phone.
The htc incredible looks nice but will Verizon drop the ball on the phone’s applications like it did with the LG Dare?
I will be selling my Dare too Nick
When we know for sure if the phone is released on March 23?
Will we find out at 12:01 am or will we have to wait for the business day to begin?
The incredible does not have the noise canceling mic
And all the test techs say the sound quality is fantastic
plus you will probley get software updates quicker with nexus
Taking whatever high-rez Android device comes first to Verizon (without a physical keyboard … sorry Droid). Waiting is getting awfully tough, though.
My friend just got an Eris. I was like, “Bro, you’ve had it for less than two weeks. Return it and order the Nexus One tomorrow.” Hahahah http://www.whatsgoodblog.com/2010/03/google-nexus-coming-verizon-week/
Verizon is really good at not saying anything to anyone, including there employee’s which is more than frustrating.
The Google Nexus One WILL be released tomorrow. (23rd) Thank you for your concern.
I hope your right
Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.
I can’t wait to see it on verizon, I am not up for renew, but I would renew for another 2 years to get a discount, even if I didn’t get a discount, I will still buy it. and again, in case you did’t hear me, I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE NEXUS ONE ON MY HANDS!!!!, Also I want to add, if Nexus one for what ever reason didn’t come in Verizon, I will leave them, I have been with them for about 5 years.
seems like the 23rd is the day! if they’re actually going to use any effective marketing strategies for the Nexus One CTIA exposure would be a great one! Ive been waiting for nexus but just heard that the htc incredible is confirmed unofficially with 6.6gb of internal (probably advertised with 8gb)and 0.86gb of ram? reliable or unreliable that definitely changes the game and 1 upps the nexus! Verizon’s only hope at getting people to buy and trust in their next android phone would to go above and beyond the Nexus One!
if you go to the verizon website and type in nexus one it send you the the google nexus one website.
if verizon sold the N1 on their website then I would consider it, but since they won’t they will probably tell you to call google for support. it doesn’t seem like verizon is going to back the N1 like they do with the rest of their phones so support will probably be crappy. just my opinion I could be wrong.
nexus one or incredible. contracts up.
A Verizon Rep just told me that they show it is coming soon on their computer. No release date though and they said that they did not know if it was going to be available in Verizon Stores or just directly through Google. She suggested that I call back in a couple of weeks to check status.
Dont Lie
I wanna buy it right now! And it’s not available for Verizon on the site yet. I really hope it’ll be available later.
im gettin really tired of waiting now, been 3 months and nothing but all talk. google and verizon didn’t even show up at the technology conf yesterday, wth!!! this is really pissing me off, we’d b better off switching to crappy service, then atleast we won’t have to wait for months and months for the darn phone…
looks like match 23 was a hoax… what a bummer – first the iphone and now verizon fails again… I just read an article on Google stating the release date is April 2011 ..yes 2011 although U assume thats a typo – either way it looks like verizon has missed the ball again and we’ll be waiting a while. Hopefully the iphone is out by then…
2011?? omg trickery once again, they got us all bent over. maybe we’ll get it b4 2012, end of the world wit no google nexus one. bummer Go Steve Jobs lol
Google said there are no longer plans to offer a version of the phone that uses the Verizon Wireless network in the United States. “We won’t be selling a Nexus One with Verizon” “Verizon Wireless customers who want an Android phone with the “power” of the Nexus One can get the Dorid [sic] Incredible by HTC.”
