James, I would like to make what you are saying clear about using the USB cord if the battery runs low. So far I have not been able to tell except when the red light comes on and I'm kicked off the internet. Could you explain that further to an old woman and really be specific. Also, I would like to know if you can over charge the mifi. Thank You for your time, Lynn Cunningham.

Hello Susie, I had one of the unlimited air cards last year from AllTell actually before they became one of Verizon's conquests. It was a completely unlimited broadband 5-8mb speed card costing 59$ a month. My wife decided she needed a new number and changed it from the data card service to a cell phone service. Well the people at Verizon neglected to explain to us that the unlimited gig bandwidth version of the air card would no longer be availble and that, if we changed the service we could not "have it back" so in other words we lost it and it is no longer being offered. The maximum available from Verison - to date - is a 10gb card which they just added to their offers at 80$ a month. The lessor version is 5gb at the new lower rate of 50$ a month.

I am currently trying their 5gb version but I must say I am thoroughly dissappointed with the advertized vs real speeds of this service. They advertize 3 to 4mb but the best I could measure using several different services is about .6 download and .5 upload which is what brought me to this site as it looks as though the MiFi may be a much better/faster solution. Good luck to you.

wondering if i can connect laptops and desk tops at the same time using the MiFi. It mentions something here about putting a wireless card in the desktop, does that mean i need to subscribe to another service as well as my MiFi. Please help, totally computer illiterate. Thanks

Hi. I changed mine so that I have to choose to connect rather than it be automatic. You can change your preferences in the VZ Access manager software. It is easy to do...check out the "help" tab on exactly how to do it...I do not remember as it has been a year or more since I did it...but it is an easy fix.

You should not need to install the VZ access software to run the MIFI as a wireless router. If your work computer has security restrictions you may not be able to connect to the router with WIFI unless you add the router as an authorized source of wifi signal. Running Microsoft Vista on two machines temporarily, I did have to add them to a Home Network group in order for them to connect to the MIFI. I have not had these issues with Windows 7. I have also used the WIFI capability with a very old XP laptop with no problems so I would look at the work laptop's security restrictions as the possible reason for the lack of access.
