UK says no more standby mode for electronic devices
The UK’s Energy Review has determined that 8% of all power use in homes is due to electronic products left in standby mode so they decided that the best thing to do is to outlaw standby mode. Now, if I’m not mistaken one of the reasons that standby mode was introduced in the first place was because consumers left those devices on all the time since powerup took too long. So let me get this straight, 100% power consumption on a given device or a minute amount with standby. Yeah, I’d outlaw standby mode too. Not to be outdone in the wacky department the state of California has entered a similar proposal.

Well, well, remember — Caleefoorneea is run by that crazy republican guy with the funny accent.
As for stand-by mode, do we *really* need that for today’s generation of flat-panel TVs and DVD players? (unless of course they are internally powered by a Microsoft operating system)
