Two more netbooks- Fujitsu Amilo and LG X110
It’s twofer Thursday as word of two new netbooks has appeared and both of them look pretty nice. The LG X110 is the most interesting as it is one of the first netbooks to integrate 3G into the device, making this a true mobile workhorse. It will add some dinero to the cost for sure and word is the X110 will set you back a lot more than most netbooks as you would expect.

Second up is the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo which if nothing else is one of the most attractive netbooks we’ve seen yet. The 8.9-inch Amilo packs the obligatory Atom processor running at 1.6 GHz to power the 1 GB of memory and 60 or 80 GB hard drive (no SSDs offered). The Amilo will be a Windows XP device and has an ExpressCard slot, something that is not that common on netbooks.

Looks like the Fujitsu Amilo is gonna be my Toshiba Libretto replacement. Been looking at most of the Netbooks in the 7 inch category, but nor finding any I like. The Amilo is the closest thing that resembles something I would buy, plus its made by Fujitsu, so I know its going to be reliable. The Kohinjinsha SR series was also a thought but the anemic Intel A110 Processor leaves me having to look in a different size category.
Wow! That’s a nice Fujitsu. Too bad the 3600RPM hard drive is a deal-breaker for me, but if the price right I may compromise. I would also like to have seen a 1280×768 display like on the P1620. From what I can tell in the picture, the trackstick is missing, there’s a trackpad instead, and the arrow-key arrangement is pushed up with a tiny shift key (bad). This is, most likely, an extremely stripped down P1620, and going back to the legendary P1120 design from 2003. Has me thinking perhaps the P1120 is reborn?
The P1120 was, and I think still is, a very capable machine. Heck it had a 2.5″ drive, pc card slot, touchscreen and ran XP solid. I’m glad I never gave mine away!
I’m curious what HP will do with the 2133 refresh later this year, as I still believe they have the premier device.
