I could be completely wrong here but I have a theory as to where the juice might be leaking out. I’ve never seen the R400 but I do have the m200. The m200 has its battery under a cover. Does the R400? If it doesn’t then maybe its leaking juice to the outside air!

The R400′s processor might not match the 1.8 processor of the Lenovo but I can offer you my experience with it. It does not feel slow at all. I find it quite snappy. I am not using it as a multimedia power station though, this is purely an office device in my hands.

I think it’s about time Toshiba sends an R400 to Gottabemobile and JK. Hello, Toshiba ?

totally agree with you, James. the 1.2ghz in the 12″ R400 is mind boggler for sure – hard to command those dollars for that kind of processor in that kind of machine.

Rob, I should have clarified that statement. I was referring to full-sized notebooks or Tablets that have Core Duo processors, there’s no reason Toshiba should have gone with the 1.2Ghz. Like you pointed out, the 1.2 Ghz Core Solo is what we have in the much smaller P1610.

I have the R400 and with the widget side bar turned off and the Power saver setting on, I get between 2H45 to 3 hours. I admit with the power saving components It should be a little better. Then again, I don’t think there is a Vista Tablet with a 4 cell battery that can go beyond 3 hours but don’t take my word for it as I could be wrong. A colleague of mine bought the Lenovo X60 with the standard 4 cell and we were shocked to see that it didn’t fare any better. He ordered the 8 cell battery the day after. The main difference though is that with a low powered cpu and a LED screen why is it not slightly better, it must have something to do with Vista. The R400 has the option to replace the 4 cell with a 6 cell and to add a secondary battery too. I am still exploring to find out where the juice is leaking out. If anyone has any insights on this, let me know!

A 12″ mobile computer should be getting near 3 hours of battery life to be useful. I doubt power management settings will gain a 30% increase over his reported 2+hours in the review. THis is disappointing as it’s a very nice Tablet PC, although the 1.2 GHz Core Duo processor is way too slow today at any price.

I have to agree with HG… in my testing with Vista, the power management settings, while offering better choices, were not necessarily configured with the most optimal settings. I would be inclined to start looking there.

Kevin am sure it has to do with Vista. Just like our Samsung Q1P when running Vista I get less battery life, then when running in XP Tablet Edition. Hopefully we can figure out what causes the battery to drain faster under Vista.
