I guess things are just meant to have Windows XP. I really like XP Tablet Edition on my Viliv S5 and been able to use it on the spot for note taking, email, quick search for specs when out on the jobsites. Besides I can enjoy Windows 7 on my Macbook, Toshiba NB205, Sony P, and MSI Wind. The other plus on the Viliv S5 is it makes a nice EReader. ;)

James, If Your getting so many Deliveries, Have you considered getting one of those Secure Mailboxes which allow the Delivary person to put the Parcel in, but can then only be opened with a key.

I Believe dVault.net has a few examples, and there are quiet a few other companies offering similar ones. The correct size to get might be an issue however :)

While it might be an added onetime expense, it might be something you can write off as a business expense, as it would be for you professional work, to allow you to receive device in a timely fashion.

I hear ya about the bluetooth. I’ve not had one device that doesn’t lose the connection randomly or need to be reconnected after working fine for awhile. No wonder so many people wander around all wired up. I’ve given up to a degree as well, since I’ve stopped using all my bluetooth geegaws for a time — they’re just too frustrating. I too wonder what gives…..

That would work but I don’t always know a package is coming. Finding out by getting a note from FedEx that they wouldn’t leave the package is a problem at times.

If you know your neighbors and they are going to be home you could leave a note for FedEx to deliver to the neighbor. I have used this method when I couldn’t be home for a delivery.

It’s these random, unexplained slowdowns or failures to sleep/resume properly that get my goat. I was hoping that Windows 7 would banish these forever, but that was wishful thinking. They don’t happen that frequently, but in a mobile setting they are killer.

I did like Win 7 on the S5, but as you stated the XP experience with it is near flawless. Maybe we geeks should be satisfied with “very good”, and not worry so much about what we “might” be missing out on. :)

Wow JK your experience with the Viliv scares me, as I *was* planning to install Win 7 on mine. Maybe not, guess I’ll install it on the TX and the Lenovo for now. The S5 is already a knockout, ultra-productive mobile tool running XP, and I don’t think that the new UI would make the switch worthwhile for me.

Installed Windows 7 RC when it came out on my laptop and I haven’t really noticed the crud. Actually over my use of windows I have only really seen awful slowdown on friends/relatives computers and I always attributed it to them. Just fresh installed windows 7 on my desktop yesterday, so I will have to keep an eye out and see if I notice any odd slowdown over the next few months.

Seems very concerning to see slowdown as you were observing just a few months after install. Now that I look back at it though i have had a couple instances where windows 7 took maybe 15 minutes to shutdown or took a long time to install updates or some other basic task. But once the slow process finished the system was snappy once more and the next shutdown or update would go just as smooth as it should. Wonder what’s causing that…

I believe it was. I find the early King work, whether Bachman or King, to be worth a revisit. He has been so prolific that it’s easy to see how his writing style evolved over his career. Revisiting his formative years in On Writing sheds light on his writing too.
