If you want to speed up Patch Tuesday, go get a copy of GFI’s Languard. It’ll let you apply patchs to all of your machines easily. They have a freeware version that’s limited to 5 IPs at a time, but still…2 sweeps and you’re done. Its proven a huge timesaver for me

Never knew you were a Civ fan James – I’ve been following their releases (PC) for years and love the game!!!

Too bad you lost those B&O headphones. I can appreciate an expensive pair of headphones myself, and would certainly hate to lose mine. Mind you, my Sony’s are SO BIG it would be difficult to misplace or lose them, unlike the tiny ones you had. I’d recommend the Sony XB700 cans, if you don’t mind the “serious audiophile” appearance. But if you don’t want to look like an aircraft ground-controller, give the XB40EX a look.

BTW: If you ever need help tinkering with those 8 laptops, just throw out a lifeline my way :)

I have been an eReader customer/ user for years and will not change. I was told by the B&N folks directly that there’s no need to change to the B&N reader, as it will be a subset of the eReader app.

The problem is that each site/store requires a different login/account.
I hate having too many places I leave my data and purchase info.
So just looking for the “best” store site. B&N is not that impressive. ereader-com seem much more diverse.
Was thinking whether you may recommend B&N if you had been a new customer. Or any of the other readers here.

I use the eReader client, as that’s what I already had. It will handle content from Fictionwise and eReader.

And you are using the ereader client simply since you have all you books on their cloud storage right?
For new comers – what online book store is more diverse and cover more new titles?

James – can you please educate me about the B&N / ereader.

When I followed your link I got to the ereader-com site. I d/l few weeks ago based on your blogging the B&N client. But that client is redirecting me to another site, where many ereader books from ereader-com don’t show up.
My question is: if I buy from ereader-com books can I read / synch them into my B&N client?

It sounds like you need to run squid or another proxy for your patch Tuesdays. I would say you could move to a business style update downloaded to a central location but that is more difficult than the proxy model.

I am looking at an asterisk based phone (atom computer) for home, and adding a squid proxy to that box.

I too downloaded Civilization for iPhone and I love it. It is exactly true to the console versions. Well worth the $5 cost.
