I don’t really think it’s fair to compare Vista START-UP times, with a Mac’s RESUME time.

My Vista machines resume within seconds, too. Starting Vista from scratch takes longer, but I don’t see the 5-15 mins that JK reports.

Is there maybe a common background app you have running on the Vista PCs that might be causing problems? I’m good to go in under 5 secs on my M700.

I use four Vista PCs every day and they all awaken and are ready to use in under 10 seconds. In fact, I think most awaken in about 3 seconds. Maybe they just take after me and have all become insomniacs. :-)

I’m going to do a more thorough review of the Startech which should address all the questions. I haven’t had it long enough to test it with video yet. My guess is the P16xx dock should be better with that than the Startech, it’s custom engineered to work with it and the Startech is not. I’ll test it though. Remember that the Startech will not power the notebook like a dedicated dock.

I enjoy your positive outlook on tech, and life. I would also love to hear more about that startech dock. Does it do a better job of quickly displaying on the monitor, then the p16xx does with just the dock?

Just a question is there any lag with that dock? I have been looking around for a Dock to use with new Toshiba Satellite and they all seem to get poor ratings. I am leery of the small throughput on USB if say I want to watch a movie on my external monitor.

I dont think you understand my point. We already know Gigom brought you guys on the books.. We know already you quit your job. We know already you and Kevin chat (obviously we watch the video). We know that you used the products in the post.

My point is that lately this has become a place where we all pat on the back James and Kevin and quite honestly thats not why I come. I come to read news and opinions. If I wanted to know how great your life is I would then subscribe to your twitter.

I like to read the This Week at MTM to see if this type of work at home arrangement would work for me. I am interested in working at home and I find the information about the tech that James is using and the issues that he is dealing with helpful.

Travis, I don’t use car or airplane adapters. I always use extended batteries and buy a 2nd one for every mobile device I use. I can often go 8 – 10 hours that way, forgoing the need for adapters.

I don’t recall you talking about what car/airplane adapters you use.

The P1620 is the only touchscreen tablet I have used that has good inking abilities. Fujitsu has perfected the palm rejection technology which lets you ink on the screen without vectoring. I used the P1620 in my old job for months quite successfully. The only real downside to the P1620 is the price compared to these cheaper new notebooks that are appearing almost every day.

Pulling a single topic out of MTM #2…how about the P1620′s inking abilities? I seem to be having a very hard time finding a small tablet (8-10″ screen?) that will support my need for a light quiet inking platform for meeting notes, document markups and only light editing, email and browsing. Its a second companion computer for mobile support. I have another laptop that can cover the heavy lifting. Any suggestions?

I have really enjoyed the first two installment of MTM. Both have been informative and vital for me as I increase my “mobilization factor”. Please continue. And to Paul I say…perhaps its time for you to move on.

I welcome all opinions and views. Paul’s points are well taken and I appreciate his making them. We all have our own opinions and no one’s are of any more value than any others. That’s how I view anyway. I should state that this feature is simply my recounting of what has happened the past week. Not horn blowing nor posturing, simply responded to the many requests I get for such information. I should also point out for Paul that while I certainly have review units come my way most all of the tools mentioned in this article were purchased with my hard-earned dollars.

Whether you agree with Paul or not, as a reader of this blog he has a point to make. And as a professional blogger, I mean technology writer, James should be open to what his readers think about his writing. Paul might not be the only reader that is thinking this. He’s just the first to step up and say something. If you don’t allow constructive criticism, you run the risk of losing readers.

That said, maybe the comments section of this post isn’t the place for this kind of feedback. Maybe it should be sent directly to James or Kevin. James has made a lot of very useful observations within the post and these comments take away from a discussion of those topics.
