There’s a new kid in town- Nokia N800 arrives
Mobile Tech Manor is a hotbed of activity these days and it seems like the delivery folks drop something off every day. Yesterday they brought an unexpected package containing a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. I have to tell you I am impressed with the out of box experience that Nokia provides with their gadgets and this one was no exception. I opened the box and it was easy to get the battery inserted and the N800 fired up. It connected to both my T-Mobile Dash and my wireless network in just a few minutes and I was off and surfing the web. I went all over the Internet, updated the OS to the latest version, installed the free 30 day Rhapsody trial, and generally had a blast for three hours. I can’t remember when a gadget has provided me so much fun. The interface is nicely laid out to take advantage of the small screen, the audio sounds pretty good, and the performance is faster than I expected. All in all I’m pretty satisfied with the N800 so far and since it’s so light and small I will probably throw it in my bag and take with me each day. It’s just that much fun. :) A few photos after the jump.

Hi James,
I got my N800 about 2 weeks ago and like you have really enjoyed using it so far….beautiful crisp, clear display!
WiFi works fabulous on this lil’ thing….
Been using a Zaurus SL-C3200 with pdaXrom on it but I’m using the N800 more and more….just nice to use and carry around, slim and trim design….

James, after spending some more time with N800, could you share your opinion on N800 as an UMPC replacement?
Are there any Office type applications for N800 for word prcessing and spreadsheet work?
Ok, you get a N800 for free, I buy one. What gives? :) But my real question is, how did you get the N800 to work with the T-Dash? I have had no joy, so I am guessing you aren’t using Bluetooth. If you are using Bluetooth please point me in a direction because it appears the N800 doesn’t support PAN and all I have managed to do to fix that is a bunch of Unix magic that I haven’t got my head around yet.
BTW, Kevin, there’s supposed to be an OS update (I grit my teeth upon that word!) that allegedly improves Flash use. Did it come with that already installed?
To James, or anybody who has used the N800.
Can you record videos with the webcam
Mike, I had to update the software when the newest version came out; I think it was early last month. Better Flash and BT support per the release notes.
I see potential for this device but I see more for umpcs.
How is YouTube on it? My interest is academic, you understand.
