I remember right after I bought my HP iPAQ HX4705 that a tech manager at HP predicted, based oin the current trends, that it and its less costly siblings might be the last non-KB/non-phone PDAs HP ever makes.

It was saddening to hear at the time, as I had used an HP Jornada 430 SE (the James Bond edition from the first Pierce Brosnan film), followed by a Jornada 560, and then an iPAQ H2215 before the HX4705.

Funny thing is, though, I haven't seen a SmartPhone of PDAPhone that does the PDA piece as good as the 2215 or 4705 do, nor the phone piece as good as traditional phones. So it's sad to see these giong when their like in quality has yet to be seen in the devices succeeding them.

(sigh)

A great product indeed. But everything I have seen over the past 18 months clearly shows stand-alone PDA sales are falling rapidly. Dell is a mass market player, not a surprising move.

My Dell Axim x51v was the best of the non-phone Windows Mobile devices I ever used. It comes in just ahead of the first VGA device I had: the Toshiba e805. The Axim line always represented a great value to me and the preformance of my device was always stellar. The Axim will be missed.
