Looks like it only works when a user is logging off, so no on the standby.

On the other hand, you say “The fix is a system service called the User Profile Hive Cleanup that once installed runs all the time and prevents the User Profile from getting muddled up in the registry.”

…is it really worth having a process running ALL THE TIME to speed up shutdowns? I normally shut down the computer then shut the lid, or walk away (for a desktop).

Plus, I don’t know about you, but I hardly ever shut down my P1510, LE1600, etc.. Standby is the main usage. Reboot occasionally, sure (every few days at the most), but I’d rather not have something that “runs all the time” to speed up a shutdown that only happens every few days and I usually walk away from.

Interesting. I wonder if it speeds up standby (& hibernate) as well.

I watched the slow shut down and start up of the Fujitsu P1610 with fascination too - and wondered whether you had the Hive cleanup service installed. I currently have the Lifebook T4010 and P7010 and had to install it on both machines. There are a couple of additional registry tweaks too: you can enable AutoEndTasks; you can also reduce the values for HungAppTimeout, WaitToKillAppTimeout and WaitToKillServiceTimeout. It was interesing to see not only an informative review but a pleasure to witness your obvious and barely concealed enthusiasm for the P1610. There are too many slick presentations on the web that leave me cold.
