I have tried all of these, including those that I had not heard of until reading this article. I am amazed and impressed by the MessageEase keyboard. I have used Fitaly and will continue to do so; these are compatible.

The Windows XP TIP is pretty good with handwriting recognition, but doesn't learn from mistakes, very frustrating that way. I understand Vista will learn, but I hesitate to install it, there are things it is said not to work with some of my tablet PC programs (HP credential manager, etc.) I tried RitePen and PenOffice, and the recognition was terrible compared to Windows XP TIP, which again is pretty good.

I use Dragon Naturally Speaking extensively, and it is absolutely the best way to get lots of text in, if you have a quiet and private place.

I'm still looking for a good phrase completion software that will work with MessageEase or Fitaly. I think a good predictive phrase completion program would complete the suite of tools that allow me to enter text sufficiently without Dragon.

Hello JK,

I came across your text entry review article. Thanks for including MessagEase among your tools.

Once little thingy I see in your description on our text entry method that maybe in the future versions you can correct: I'ts not true that MessagEase's frequent letter buttons are larger. All buttons are of the same size (all larger, much larger that their comparable QWERTY, Fitaly, or Alpha size). What makes MessagEase different is that the frequent letters are entered with a tap (on a large key) and the infrequent letters are entered with a DRAG (on the same large key).

Again, thanks for giving us the coverage.

Best regards,

Saied Nesbat

Robert, thanks for the info about your product WordLogic. Does the PC version provide an on-screen keyboard for use with the pen on Tablet PCs? This would make it very practical from my POV. If it is keyboard only it would be kind of redundant for touch typists, at least to me.

For many people the virtual onscreen keyboard is the only possibility to type due to physical challenges.

I saw Internet-cafe and Internet Kiosks where it is impossible to install any software. Or even impossible to go to the Desktop or My Computer. In this case the online onscreen virtual keyboard is the only possibility to type.

Here is the example of the online virtual keyboard with the word prediction and possibility to add words to the words to the predictions lists:

<a href="http://www.enetplanet.com/kb_en/" rel="nofollow">http://www.enetplanet.com/kb_en/</a>

It makes sense to add a city name, street name, etc., some people's names to the prediction list, as it makes typing faster.

It works fine with IE6 and Firefox 1.0 , but it does not work with the Safari browser.

Cheers!

Awesome article that covers it all, beware of systems that peddle faster text entry speeds unless you work involves pure data entry.
For knowledge work (writing, correspondence, coding etc), "fast text entry is better" is like saying "good drivers drive fast"

If only someone can figure out a better editing methodology for the Tablet?

All of these are great for getting something into the Tablet, but editing what was incorrectly recognizied is significantly slower than these input methods.
