Tablet PC spotted: inside the #12 Alltel Dodge with Ryan Newman
Eagle-eyed jkOTR reader Trevor spotted this unique picture of Ryan Newman using a slate Tablet PC in the number 12 Alltel Dodge at a NASCAR event. Rusty Jarrett took the picture back in January when Newman was testing his car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. As an avid NASCAR fan, I know that Newman is a bright dude with an engineering degree. Why am I not surprised he uses a Tablet PC? Now I’m wondering: is he using OneNote to jot down notes from his practice runs? Even more intriguing: does he keep a spare stylus in the glove-box (as if there was one…)?
Note: I didn’t publish the photo here due its copyright attributes; I figured someone would ask, so here’s the answer in advance.

It’s likely not mounted in the car due to safety reasons. When driving as fast as these cars can go, any distraction would be a detriment. Consider even though a race car has a stripped down interior, these acre are probably worth anywhere from 100,000-150,000 EACH!
Three fingered salute not going to happen with those gloves – perhaps he was just trying to start the car …..
Actually, all Tablet PCs must have a hardware button dedicated to the three-finger salute, so he’s in luck: gloves or no gloves! ;)
Someone needs to correct that caption. It is a tablet, not a laptop. Go get them Sumocat!!
