I know one of you cpu geniuses can figure this out but I cant. Millions in dallas would be greatful and i can listen at work.

YouTube on the web is streaming Flash. How is YouTube implemented on the iPhone? Streaming Flash or something else? I wonder if we couldn’t exploit the YouTube implementation on the iPhone to stream other Flash media.

we can hope and pray that when the iPhone Flash update is released (hopefully in a couple of months?) that ORB will function as normal. I am not optimistic mostly because Sony had some similar deal with the PSP and when it upgraded to flash, it still blocked streaming.

If they block streaming Flash, we’ll be out of luck for live TV on the iPhone. Because of the protocols for streaming m4v to the iPhone (files can’t be compressed — they are streamed as is) it’s not so great.

btw, ESPN has a pretty cool link for it’s podcasts via the iphone now. check out (from the iPhone):

tversity is the first app that allows real streaming audio, i.e. pop in some internet radio stations into it and it fools the iphone into thinking its a regular quicktime file, and it begins to stream once it creates the file. It uses the IUI gui kit.

When you stream using Orb, does it let you select multiple tracks, and will the iPhone move from one to the other automatically?

Also, I don’t think the live TV streaming will work. The iPhone only plays video in an MPEG4 container delivered over HTTP. My understanding is that combination requires that the length and size of the file must be finite and known at the beginning of playback for it to work. We’ll need to wait for RTSP support for live streaming (and on-the-fly transcoding)

I’ve heard good things about Glide Mobile, which is both PC and Mac compatible. It can’t stream live TV, but it does support DivX, WMV, AVI, MP4, and other video formats, as well as AAC, AC3, M4A, AIFF, and the usual set of audio files.
