Or how about using SyncToy between the two devices? Just set up your folder pairs and let SyncToy do all of the heavy lifting.

James, have you viewed the Inkshow Josh Einstein did on GottaBeMobile.com on syncing ALL your folders using OneNote 2007? It seems to be the perfect solution for your syncing needs.

This might be to pedestrian for the Tech Guru that you are but it sure seems like the easiest solution using the KISS principle.

I’m starting to get all codependent about you not being able to get Foldershare working. I have it successfully syncing my array of devices, half of which are XP and the other half Vista. Because of the 10,000 file sharing limit, I’ve been forced to go Ross Wirth’s route (creating the same subfolders in My Documents on each device and handpicking ones for syncing on each one). This, so for, has worked seamlessly for me.
So, if I were you, I’d take the p1610 for sure (so light!) but most importantly, I hope you’re able to solve the syncing issue. OR — for now, you could make sure to leave one of your main devices on (don’t we all, all the time) and just use Foldershare to access individual files online when you need them. That’s definitely not the program’s best feature (doesn’t work easily with OneNote), but it’s OK with most document types.

Its a hard life having to pick between two fine pieces of hardware! I’d personally (assuming my wife would let me) take the 2710P because you would avoid the hassle of the documents sync’ing.

James – I’m so close to picking up a 2710p it’s not funny, fortunatly they don’t have any in stock so I’m able to keep holding out.

When I set FolderSync up on my P1610 (still running Vista), and my desktop at home (XP Pro) I just created a sub-folder in my MyDocs on my desktop and sync all of my P1610 docs there. It works great, I only wanted a sub-set of my documents synced to the P1610 so this was perfect. However if you wanted to sync everything you should be able to just move the docs on on PC into the newly created sub-folder.

Close call this weekend too, several of my co-workers are headed to Vegas this weekend, and I almost came along, almost had the opportunity to meet in person!

Have a great trip, as you said the form factor of the P1610 is better for traveling, but that doesn’t do you any good if you don’t have the data you need.

Back up your docs to a disk! – you do this regularly anyway right?

Then do the manual back up or even better find an alternative to foldersync that works with your configeration which appears to be the root cause of your concern.

Per your comment on syncing and an earlier post on an Exchange server account, the one greatest challenge to mobilility still and yet appears to be data integrity.

What is the best, most convenient cost effective method for securely capturing, organizing, storing, sharing and backing up data?

No really, not a rhetorical question. I have yet to find an answer to that is as satisfying and well developed as some of the hardware one uses to manage it.
