I think the confusion lies in the Sony Press Release. They stated a “4.5-inch wide SVGA screen”. So it is 4.5-inches wide or is it wide SVGA? It appears based on some resellers that the screen is WSVGA or 1,024×600; I just wish the Sony PR would have said it that way! ;)

Can you post a link to the Sony site that states WSVGA? I have seen SVGA on the Sony site in multiple places.

the new Sony UX isnt SVGA, it’s WSVGA (wide)

You raise a good point Dave since you might be able to tether a 3G-capable phone to a smallish laptop at around the same price. I think it’s a question of how “mobile” and “small” you want your device(s) to be. For me, a 4.5-inch screen isn’t appealing. I had a 4-inch VGA screen on my Toshiba e805 PDA and while I loved it as a PDA, I wouldn’t be as happy with it as an all-day computing device. Get me a Tablet PC with an 8-10-inch screen for about $1500 and I could tether my XV6700 with EVDO at around the same $1800. Hmm; maybe it’s time to take another look at the Fujitsu P1510 after all, although I’d prefer integrated 3G, not tethered.

The aspect ratio of the screen is that of 800 x 480 (or about 1024 x 600). I don’t know which they used but it doesn’t look like 800 x 600.
