Sony VAIO P on the way- geek overload ensured
I am so happy to report that a bright, shiny new Sony VAIO P is on the way and should be here at Mobile Tech Manor in the next few days. This loaner is thanks to our good friends at Dynamism, and I am excited about having a hands-on experience with the VAIO P for a couple of reasons.
First and foremost, the VAIO P is just so cool. All you have to do is watch the video (below) Kevin and I shot of the VAIO P in Vegas earlier this year to know that. Secondly, and almost foremost, the VAIO P wending its way to my door right now is the Japanese version, only available to us in the U.S. through importers like Dynamism. This is important because this particular model has the Intel (INTC) Z540 1.86 GHz Atom processor inside, and I don’t believe we’ve seen that slighly faster Atom in any product in the U.S. yet. I am anxious to see how much difference this fast Atom processor makes in the VAIO P, especially when coupled with the faster front side bus and speedy SSD drive that Sony is using.
I won’t have the VAIO P for very long, so I’ll be sure to start bringing you the typical jkOnTheRun coverage of this cool device as soon as it gets in my hands. I know I can’t wait.

I know it ships with Vista but I’d quite like to know how it performs running Windows 7. Perhaps one of the latest builds to leak onto the web? :)
Works much better on XP or Win 7.
Finally getting one now? It’s almost old news for us gadget addicts.
Hope your trial goes better than mine. I just picked up the $899 version from Staples last night. Taking it back today. In a nutshell:
1. I love the screen
2. Keyboard is nice but a little spongy
3. Wireless seems to be a little slow or weak
4. Built in Verizon broadband was useless as I use AT&T
5. It is as light as a feather
6. Build quality wasn’t great, seemed to flex too much
7. Mouse stick was OK, took some getting used too
8. It’s just too slow. Couldn’t play YouTube vids
