Sony releases USB-based dock for any notebook
Sony today has announced the release of a USB 2.0 docking solution that enables the use of an external monitor at resolutions up to 1600×1200. The VGP-UPR1 dock is not cheap at $199.99 but it handles both analog and DVI monitors and adds 4 USB ports, audio jacks and an ethernet jack. While this dock is designed for Sony’s Vaio notebooks the USB connection enables it to be used with any notebook with an appropriate USB port. The dock comes with an A/C adapter to power the dock. These docks are very useful for those who use the notebook as a desktop replacement with peripherals including an external monitor and make it easy to unplug the notebook with just the one connector.

James,
does it have a LAN connector, too??
That would be the Ethernet jack mentioned. :)
you guys should run a notebook dock comparison if possible?
Hmm…No mention of XP compatibility on Sony’s product page.
I would like to see Wireless USB as standard equipment in laptops so that docking stations such as these could connect wirelessly to the laptop. You would only need to connect the power cable to your laptop each day, and the rest would use a wireless USB connection.
