Sling Player for BlackBerry Goes Gold
Those of you who are addicted to your Slingbox in addition to your BlackBerry will be doing a happy dance with this news that the Sling Player has left beta for the BlackBerry. Sling Player has been in beta since late last year and apparently all the bugs are squashed and the real deal is now ready for you to grab. Just head over to the Sling web site on your BlackBerry and grab it. There’s a 30-day free trial, after which you will pay $29.99 to keep slinging video to your little screen.
Storm owners should feel left out yet again as Sling Player only works over Wi-Fi, thus shutting out the BlackBerrys without Wi-Fi.
You iPhoners should note that Sling Player for iPhone has been submitted to the Apple App Store for approval so you’ll soon be able to sling, too.

The Sling Player for Blackberry works over the cellular network also, not just Wifi. The reason it doesn’t work on the Storm is two-fold as indicated by Sling. The Storm was new when they were developing the client and didn’t have access to the specs until late, thus couldn’t incorporate the larger touch screen.
Also, the biggest reason is CDMA Blackberry phones have an issue with Sling Streaming. Presently, the Sling Player only works over GSM, both edge (not good stream quality) and 3G. There are reports that a new version of CDMA Blackberry firmware allows the Sling Player to work over EVDO.
I have been using the Blackberry Slingplayer on the Pearl 8100 on Tmobile and it works quite well. I would have no qualms recommending someone with TMOBILE to make the purchase at all. In fact I have been using Slingplayer Mobile on Windows Mobile Devices and Palm Devices all on Tmobile and they have all been acceptable. But, it is EDGE and you have to be prepared for a hiccup now and then.
PC Magazine posted the following:
Here is a list of what works so far:
SlingPlayer for BlackBerry works on the Bold, 8900, 8820, Curve 8350i, Curve 8320, Flip 8220, and Pearl 8120, though several of those only work over Wi-Fi and not over 3G. Check the Web site for details. Sadly, Verizon and Sprint BlackBerry support is still MIA
Here is their website to check on your specific device: http://www.slingmedia.com/go/blackberry
I’d love t know how you got it installed on a Pearl 8100.
When i try via the Blackberry Browser it fails with a message saying its not supported.
