Sierra Wireless USB 598 3G Modem: No Verizon Contract Needed
A while back, Verizon made a big deal that they were going to start approving phones for use on the Verizon network that could be obtained from third parties. The appeal is that this opens up the ability to buy unlocked phones and use them with existing Verizon accounts. We haven’t seen a rush of unlocked phones hit the market, but Sierra Wireless was paying attention and has released the USB 598 3G modem.
The USB 598 can be purchased anywhere and activated on an existing Verizon data plan. This eliminates the normal renewing of a 2-year contract by switching to a new device. The USB 598 retails for $199 and supports EV-DO Rev. A.

Just in time for me… I had a client that paid for my EVDO card and this project is over and I have to return it. It is really hard living without one. Where can you get it?
Check out Sierra Wireless’ web site.
its worth noting that the Sierra Wireless USB 598 is the only modem that will work on Verizon Wireless’ network and support GPS (on any platform)… as well as SMS on Mac OS X!

It’s also worth noting that your store leaves these thread-hijack comments on pretty much every 3G type post we do. This post is from *April*, Alex… sheesh! I know and appreciate that your site adds informative value – like the USB598 review you just posted – in addition to selling products, but it seems like every 3G device post we offer will pretty much guarantee a comment directing folks to your store. If you’d like to advertise on the site, I can put you in touch with our sales folks instead of having you use comments for the same purpose. ;)
certainly i realize that your post was from april, when the usb 598 was announced by sierra wireless… but the hands-on review i posted is new and as you said, does add informative value. in fact, i believe its the only hands on review of the usb 598 used on the verizon network.
please do put me in touch with sales folks… i’ll put them in touch with higher ups that make advertising decisions.
i’m only answering via this reply/post because you posed the question here.
please feel free to kill off whatever posts you feel you need to.
i’m just doing my job and getting the word out about a review nobody else has.
Thanks for the response, Alex. I appreciate that you’re trying to get the word out about a review. However, the ultimate goal of your review is to sell the product under review, based on the many store links and placements in images. So I don’t think commenting in old posts here is really the best approach. It’s akin to any other device vendor using direct link comments to ultimately sell their product — something we really don’t tolerate much. Thanks again for responding.
