SanDisk Vaulter puts flash memory for OS, data on PCI-e card

jkk of jkkmobile shot me an e-mail in the wee hours of the morning to share the latest news out of SanDisk. The storage company introduced details of their new Vaulter product, which puts solid state flash memory on a mini-PCI card. The Vaulter is meant to speed up your notebook by storing the operating system and often-used data; the user can configure which data would go to the flash memory as opposed to the hard drive of the device. With initial storage capacities of either 8- or 16 GB when the Vaulter arrives at OEMs next year, that should be plenty to hold XP or Vista, leaving you plenty of hard drive capacity for programs and data.Of course, the more obvious use of the Vaulter to me is to pop it in the PCI-e slot that’s open in the Asus Eee PC. I’ve already voided my warranty by opening the expansion cover and dropping a 1 GB SODIMM in the slot to double the memory. ;)
