jkOnTheRun Geek Session: Skype video on Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium
After I got Skype to recognize the front camera on the Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium, it was time to put the device to the test. James and I routinely have video chats, some we even record and share, so I wanted to find out if I’d be able to use the new UMPC for this. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I guess a video equates to something like a million. Rather than write that many words, I’ll let you judge the video. You’ll get some early impressions of the HTC Shift from James during this slightly different Geek Session!

I had success with Skype video on the Q1U driving (as a passenger) up the 405 freeway, tethered through my HTC titan, and using a U727 EVDO modem. That front mount camera is great for person to person, while the back camera is great for demos or walking tours.
$50!!!! Try $120 here in the UK. Sheesh, no wonder you guys can buy all that tech! ;-)
Liking the look of the Samsung.
Managed to get Skype + Video working OK on the Shift also, so not sure what the probs were.
I agree, the Shift and video Skype are disappointing and unusable. I was even connected via a WiFi router 10 feet from the Shift. I then used my Fujitsu U810 with the same processor (although with Windows XP) and it worked flawlessly with video chatting and Skype.
i know what the problem is, and it isnt the hardware.
although i try not to be to tough on J & K since i am sympathetic to the fact they get devices early in their lifecycle with early drivers, no tweaks, & primarily a OOTB experience. but unfortunately they tend to give devices a bad rep when they dont actually deserve it.
Carp, enlighten us with what the Skype problem is.
After watching the video, I’ve got a tech itch going on.
Somebody find me a job!
