I am buying a used Q1b that doesn’t have the recovery cds. I am ordering them from Samsung. Let me see if I have this straight. I connect the Q1b to my PC with the USB cord, I connect my USB keyboard to it (the one I use on a PC) and make sure I install the cds in the correct order. If I’m doing something wrong here somebody please let me know ASAP! It was working then some guy tried to install the 2 cds he had (he didn’t realize there were supposed to be 3) and now it is stuck in the installing mode between cds. It just keeps saying hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, which nothing much happens because it is wanting the other cd I guess. Does this sound really risky to you guys? I haven’t bought it yet or ordered the cds yet. Thanks for your input on this.

Bear in mind that I restored the AVS functionality on the original Q1/Q1P, not the Q1U. I can’t be sure how many disks come with the Q1U because I didn’t buy one. There are three with the first generation Q1 series. Can a Q1U owner help out here? Thanks!

Hi…I read your post about restoring the AV instant on which sounds great as I have upgraded my Q1U to 2Gb. However I only have 2 disks that came with my Samsung…i don’t have a specific AV one. Can you confirm you have three seperate disks? Thanks. Kevin

HELP, I purchased a Samsung Q1 off E-bay and did not receive the “Samsung System Software” restore CD. I was forced to restore the unit as the Bluetooth was not functioning. I have been able to get most of the drivers off the Samsung Web site, but some of the applications that deal with Q1 settings, etc. are not there. I still cannot get the bluetooth running. Does anyone know if the Q1 settings program (which I don’t have) allows me to turn the Bluetooth radio on and off. Windows sees the Bluetooth device, but the bluetooth places does not see the radio…so I think it is turned off. I am looking for the ISO image file of the CD that I was supposed to get or a zip of the contents. Samsung will not get back to me..same with the seller. Thanks in advance for anyone’s help!

Thanks again. It is not perfect but at least it works! I can now use the screen display button again. However, it has to have a program mapped to it too! This means that it opens a window – but at least it works again – I would be lost without that button.

In case you are wondering I have mapped a real keyboard to this as I use it in Kensington docking station. This is an excellent combination of tools!

thanks for the advice, I will give that a try now. What happens is the Microsoft keyboard reads the hardware buttons as some of the hotkeys on the keyboard. This means it loses the mappings. I have managed to get the onscreen menu back by putting a link to the program on the desktop.

Do you have any idea what program the hardware button actually runs for the screen resolution switching? Maybe I could just directly map the keyboard hotkey to that program.

Matt, not sure why a keyboard installation would cause that issue, but that stinks! Here’s what I would do: go to the software download section of the Samsung Q1 page and download the latest version of Magic Keyboard. I’d then re-install that application as that’s the app that enables the Samsung hardware buttons. If that didn’t help, I’d do the same for the Display Manager and then the Menu UI app; the combo of these three apps is what provides the hardware button functionality as well as the on-screen displays. I can’t guarantee that this will fix the issue of course, but that’s what I would do. Good luck!

Can someone please advise?

I have installed a Microsoft keyboard onto the Q1, unfortunately it hijacks all of the keys on the Q1! No more quick resolution switch or menu!

Please can someone advise how I go about reinstalling these?

Well my Q1 turned up from the UK today (can’t buy them in Australia yet) and my locally sourced 1GB stick of ram (Corsair) also arrived so I put the two together and hey presto no AVS.
I tried the simple things first (F8 and delete restoration data) and it just hung in the welcome screen shortly followed by the black screen with mouse pointer, repeated the process a couple of times but same result. Next the full restore (twice, as outlined by Kevin), no luck, still the black screen of gloom.
Are there any other tricks I’ve missed to get the AVS working?

Lyle, Windows Journal comes with every machine running the Tablet Edition to the best of my knowledge, so it’s in there. I’m not sure what program you’re referring to; it must be third party or the Inking tutorial because in the XP Tablet Edition, you can’t train the handwriting recognition; that’s actually a new feature in Vista.
