Revisiting my mobile tech roots
I’m sitting here in a soon-to-be-abandoned Mobile Tech Manor with everything packed except for a few gadgets that I need to use during the moving phase. All of the mobile gadgets have been packed with care, many of them hand carted over to the new Mobile Tech Manor but right now I have found myself back to the simple mobile tech life. I am using the MacBook Pro all by itself, wirelessly tethered to the intrawebs, the rest of my workspace clean and bare. What I am finding is that working this way is delightfully simple. I don’t have to contend with the extra monitor, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse or any other piece of technology. Just the MBP and me, doing our thing. Makes me think about the complicated way I usually work.

Well, then, how about a big jkOnTheRun giveaway of all the goodies that are currently boxed up (ready for shipping, right?) to compete with gottabemobile’s Xmas in the Summer give-away :)
Hey James,
Glad to hear the move is going smoothly. I can empathize with working in a “forced” slimmed down manner as we moved last year. Interesting that you’ve got the MBP as the last-to-move computer, rather than one of your small Windows machines… I know, I know; right tool for the job :)
No can do on the giveaway, Oliver.
Todd, I also have the HP 2710p in my Booq bag ready for service too but since I only have the one EVDO card and I don’t want to get sharing working for a short period it’s the MBP for now.
Just got an update from the movers who now will not be here until 4 pm. We’ll have to see how well this is going to work. :(
New twist of mobility… let’s coin a new term… “desktop mobility”! :)
But simplicity is tough because there’s always that trade off of power and capability versus simplicity. We are pretty good at it when it is forced on us by our desire to be mobile.
But just for simplicity’s sake? I think most of us are just not willing to give up the capability to do more. Otherwise why carry all those gadget bags on trips!
One could make the argument that if you are finding peace in the simplicity of using one device that you might want to look a bit harder at trimming down. I know that it is hard as I am a fellow reviewer; but in my trimming I’ve become a lot more adept at simply getting things done.

That’s because he’s sending it all to ME ME ME!
FINALLY, my message of Intervention has gained root(!) in JK’s brainpan. Ah. I look forward to that honking big UPS box!!
Wait, what did JK just send me in email?
Damn! Foiled again!
If indeed it is just your MBP and you, then why are you using an IBM Thinkpad Transnote to accomapny this blog post?
