There are similar apps for Windows, of varying degrees of usefulness and robustness. Ephpod comes first to mind. I've used it to recreate my library a couple of times.

I use iTunes as well (PC not mac), but my first step whenever I get new audio on there is to back it up as a WAV file. Then I have the option to go MP3 or WMA for my portable devices. For video, I'll either rip my DVD's as VOB files and keep them on my hard drive or convert them to WMV files for my pocket pc.

I've considered getting a pocket-sized 320GB notebook drive for external USB use, but because my HP mininote is already so compact and uses a regular sata notebook drive, it's smarter for me to get a 320 or 500GB vanilla notebook drive and upgrade the unit. My music collection easily compresses down to 8GB, but with a nice big hard drive I'd now have room for music, photos, movies and storage for any camcorder video I take while on the go.

I used drag and drop when I set up my MacBook. I'll detail it in the next Mobile Tech Manor.

Here is another solution, abet more costly. Drobo has plugins for the drobo share that lets you have aitunes server that is protected by the data robot of drobo. Here is the link http://www.drobo.com/droboapps/downloads/index.php?id=11

Would be a good investment.

Thanks,

First enable hidden folders, then open the ipod as an external drive, then right click on iPod control, make folder unhidden, final drag ipod control folder onto itunes. This will restore the music back into a windows machine.

Thanks,
