The proper name for the DWORD value is “ShowHibernateButton”, not “ShowHibernationButton”.

This Registry fix doesn’t work. I hear you have to have sp3 installed to work, according to MS, but I have sp3 installed and it still doesn’t work..

This doesn’t work because of a Typo.

Doesn’t work:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsSystemShutdown
Create a DWORD value named ShowHibernationButton and set its data to 1.

Works:
ShowHibernateButton

Hey guys, when you type the DWORD value it is actually "ShowHibernateButton" and NOT ShowHibernationButton. Try that and it should work for you all.

i used the tip – when you are at the shut down prompt showing
standby / turn off / restart
type the H key from your keyboard, and your pc will hibernate

this works great for me with xp sp2 – no need for any hotfix or registry editing

I added the key & DWORD value to my system registry on Windows XP SP2, and it didn’t work. I have a Dell laptop, if that helps…
