Psst. Sprint 4G is Lit up in San Francisco
You folks in Silicon Valley who are waiting for Sprint to light up the 4G network are going to like what I have to tell you. I’ve been in San Francisco for four days and have tested the 4G coverage all over the SOMA (south of Market Street) area. Not only have I found active Sprint 4G everywhere I’ve tested, but it’s a very strong signal.
I have used my Sprint EVO 4G smartphone to connect to the 4G network, and a friend was able to connect with an Epic 4G at even faster speeds than my EVO. How fast? I saw 7+ Mbps down and 1.5 Mbps up, which is true mobile broadband. I have averaged nearly 4 Mbps down everywhere I’ve used it, and see no speed degradation when tethering the phone to my laptop. Here’s a teaser to get you SFers heading to the Sprint store.
Wake up San Francisco, your 4G is ready.

I’ve been carrying around both an EVO and an Epic for the past month. This has allowed me to closely compare their 4G performance here in Seattle. The Epic consistently pulls down a signal where the EVO has none (in 4G) and always out performs it in download speed as well.
That said though, the EVO’s mobile hotspot works much more reliably than the Epic’s. I find myself needing to stop/start it several times through the day to keep the 4G goodness flowing to my other devices.

Not seeing any 4G on the west side of SF.
I was getting Sprint 4G service during Oracle World, even though the Sprint rep at the event said it wasn’t live yet. The speed wasn’t anywhere near what you’ve posted here. I had about 1.5 down and .4 up on my Overdrive.
Kind of irrelevant for Sprint’s more substantial SoCal customer base. Even if 4G were available in cities like LA, Virgin Mobile’s $40 3G solution is cheaper and works like a champ.

I was able to get 4g at mel’s drive in across from metreonwith my evo. I was so happy.
IIRC, there’s a Sprint Corporate store in the area of Mel’s, opposite side of the garage building, that may be pumping out the delicious 4G signal.
as i know 4g give you 120Mb download and 50Mb upload with delay less than 50ms . i dont think this a full 4g
True 4g can accomplish these speeds yes, but no carrier in the United States will be carrying full capacity LTE anytime soon.
