Protect your investment with free Laptop Alarm
I hang out in coffee shops a lot, in fact I’ve been dubbed a "professional coffee-breaker" by a world famous ink blogger. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how many people I see every day just walk away from their laptop to go outside to make a phone call, visit the facilities or the counter to order something. This is something I never do because I can’t live with the thought of my precious being stolen because I left it unattended. There is a free program that these folks should install ASAP, Laptop Alarm. The utility monitors your system and when someone does something pre-theft like pull out the AC connector or disconnect a USB mouse it will sound an alarm. It will also alarm you when someone fails to enter a password when the system is shut down or if a thief attempts to log you off.

Sounds a bit silly, I don’t think a thief would take the time to log you off if they just wanted to swipe your laptop/tablet/UMPC : P
I think it would be funny to see someone unplug their computer forgetting that this software is installed, and have all eyes on them while they try to apologize for the annoying interruption.
Some more practical software like Lo-Jack for Laptops would probably be a better option, though its not free ; D
