PocketInformat 1.5 out for BlackBerry- adds Storm support
One of my favorite phone PIM applications is PocketInformant by WebIS. I’ve used it on every Windows Mobile device I’ve owned, as I love the way it lets me interact with the PIM data via customized views. It’s great to have hands-on access to my calendar, tasks and contact information in a seamless environment.
I noticed recently that version 1.5 has been released for the BlackBerry which adds many new features to an already feature-laden program. The most notable for me is the new support for the Storm. PocketInformant now takes advantage of the Storm’s big screen for all the various data views, and it adds special touch gestures for interacting with the data.
Version 1.5 costs $19.95 and is a free upgrade to those who have already purchased version 1.x. There is a trial version available to see if you like it, which is what I am currently trying. The complete new feature list may help you decide if you need this new version:
- NEW! Direct Outlook sync add-in via USB (requires Desktop Installation to install)
- NEW! Full support for Storm (with proper touchscreen support, toolbars, navigation bars etc.)
- NEW! Integration with BlackBerry email view with create Event/Task menu commands added
- NEW! Smart emails/URLs underlining added to note fields for events/tasks/contacts/journal
- NEW! Space+Shift scrolling up added for dialog with Space scrolling enabled
- NEW! Editing categories from main views added
- NEW! Major improvements in sync with BB PIM (Contacts/Calendar/Tasks): increased stability and performance

Now I know that Windows Mobile is generally considered to have the worst UI but IMO Blackberries are just too ugly to use. I’ve not seen the Storm so I can’t comment on that but just look at the un-antialiased fonts in that screenshot. Yuck!!!
Having said that, Pocket Informant for Windows Mobile is one of if not the best mobile apps ever written so I hope it’s just as good for Blackberry users.
Jake, that screenshot is from the PI people. My fonts are nice and smooth and the screen looks much better than this.
Thanks James, I suspected that that must be the case by now. My BB experience is about a year old now so I guess I’m a bit out of date.
Perhaps PI should release better screenshots to show off how good their software is.
FYI, there is a so-called sidegrade price of $12.95 for those like you (and me) who own the WinMo version of PI.
Jake – I used to think the same way about Blackberry’s…then I tried the Blackberry Bold.
Not only is it fantastically functional (everything you need to use is pretty much built in and works together) but with the Bold it actually looks rather nice.
I have had more phones then hot breakfasts from Palm OS, PPC2003, WM5, WM6, S60, S80, iPhone etc etc but the Bold is a keeper – pop past a shop and try it ;o)
