Palm Press: Update for the Pixi; App Catalog Tops 500
It is Thursday and that means it’s time for another Palm Press. Palm Press is our weekly look at the world of Palm. Pixi owners are smiling these days as Palm has already pushed out a webOS update to them. Version 1.3.2 doesn’t change very much, and it seems to leave the Pre out in the cold as only the Pixi is getting the update. No word on when the next update might be released for the Pre.
Some Pre and Pixi owners may be getting impatient with the slow rollout of apps for webOS, but we are seeing more movement in the App Catalog. A recent check shows the Catalog is up to 525 apps. This is just a few short of the 100,000+ in the App Store, but it’s showing that apps are hitting the App Catalog. Let’s hope the pace picks up a bit; the truth is, it’s not how many apps are in the store, it’s if the one or two you really need are there.

Also worth a mention this week is news that webOS 1.3.5 will remove the storage limitation for apps. That’s great since the App Catalog is growing. /var is currently limited to 253 MB for application installs, but that constraint is going away soon. :)
Maybe it’ll also give you a vertical web browser indicator/slider. ;)
I’d take it, if I could get it. :)
It’s been rumored that Dec. 16 is the planned release date for 1.3.5. That’s just from a comment on a Precentral post, but could be true, who knows. I hope so, if it’s too close to the holiday it’ll be an issue for me.
Also, more than a slider in the browser (which I don’t mind at all not having), how about some anchor support in web pages? I’m willing to forgive a lot of things, but this is ridiculous.
Totally agree on the anchor support — it was one of the gaps I identified on day one and makes the Pre very difficult for me to use when trying to view reader comments here — something I do all day long. :(
