I am a dedicated Palm user but miss so many features of former models….such as being able to be in sms and bring information in from contacts without having to cut and paste….and I am having such a terrible time finding people in contacts…it often doesn’t recognise entries that I know are there and is not case sensitive….so bad is it that I am thinking of leaving Palm for the first time in 5 models !!!!! hope Hewlett Packard improves this !!!!
I also hate not having a cable to sync….can’t sync to my PC and Outlook by buying external programmes as everything has been brought into the Pre from my 650 and 680 in Palm Profile mode and can’t be changed to Outlook mode apparently….so I am really snookered.

and the battery life….what stress…it lasts me one morning only !!!!

I think it would be awesome if we could just swipe left for spam, and right for trash. That would just about fix the problem. Or, even better, make it user-configurable. Say you never delete e-mail, but archive it? make that the swipe-right. The possibilities are pretty endless as so many people have different email configurations.

buying this phone seems to be disappointing me more and more each day. My buddy has an iphone and watching him have fun with it makes me nuts. Every time I find something I would like to add from a third party sight, the palm seems to be the only phone that isn’t on the compatability list! From ringtones to games there seems be be nothing outthere for the pre that is just for fun. Am I wrong?

Got to say its a very enjoyable device to use.. but I agree with many of the points raised.

Top on my list would be:

1 The Return key on SMS! I love that hitting return sends the message, makes communicating very snappy. but. There is no way to literally hit “return” – i.e. drop a line, I use this to separate items on lists + a dozen other situations its useful, and unless I’m being really dumb there is no “shift+return” or “orange key+return” which brings this, it just sends the damn text! Even a “return character” on the sym button would be acceptable.

2 as many have mentioned – the ability to copy text away from webpages. The card view is a massive plus for the Pre, allowing you to flick between web and email/calendar etc.. the pre just seems to miss that last trick that would truly link your cards – the ability to send info across them!

3 Undo! “Oh no I made a mistake deleting a character on someone’s tel number… nothing I can do to get it back! Hold on I’ll call them.. Oh.. Damn!”

Still no shortcuts to scroll to the top of the page while browsing? I see this as important… wondering if anyone has figured it out yet…

also, no audio recording? Voice notes? will there be an update for this as well?

I agree completely. It is missing all the basic functions of the Treo (I specifically had a 755p). Everything from Text Forwarding, having to type in WORDS for emoticons, no video recorder, doesnt sync in address books from email accounts, cant change text tones, the Edit option is difficult to use, etc…I could go on for days. I am returning my phone tomorrow and going back to my rusty trusty user friendly Treo 755p, that is until Pre makes these necessary updates. The best feature on the Pre is the “card” options and its easy to navigate through. Using multiple apps without losing “your spot” is quite convenient. However, it isnt as convenient when the multiple apps you would like to utilize arent available. I’ve made my positive and negatives list and as of now the negatives far outweigh the positives!

It’s sad b/c a lot of what you listed was on my Palm 755P (agenda view, voice dialing, voice memos, sending contact cards & i ‘m pretty sure you could copy paste anything). I’m baffled at the fact that they didn’t bring over the feature we palm users like.

Here is my list:
- Undo (gesture + Z)
- Mini calendar for selecting dates instead of the silly scroll. When I need to make something for the second Tuesday, it’s hard to determine that using a scroll interface.
- Recurring tasks
- Task sorting by date
- Agenda view for appointments and tasks due in the next X days.
- Day’s tasks due showing at the bottom of the calendar day view, configurable of course to show or not according to preference.
- Ringtone selection based on call type – general known, unknown/private call. Like the Sprint Samsung A900.
- Voice command dialing. I cannot believe that this is not available.
- Voice memo recording
- Ability to add a caption or update when uploading photo to Facebook
- Ability to send a contact card (if it’s out there, I can’t find how to do it)
- Text copy feature in non-editable text, like web pages, other Twitter updates, etc.

I wish the phone had visual voice mail,video, voice search, spell check, and I agree that after you see an alert at the bottom of the screen and you swipe it away it needs to stay away. I would also like to be able to tap something on the face of the phone to call the last numbered dialed, instead on having to open the phone, open the call log, then hit the last number I need to call again. I feel the the Pre is close to greatness, I want to love the phone and once these things are fixed I will.

Any suggestions?

Ok really I hate the noise it makes for a text alert.. This really needs to change.. And the IM not being set up for windows live or my yahoo im.. Am I missing something here?? And I would like the option to select the text message to start at the top with out scrolling the entire message history.

missing features..
1. when in conference mode, cannot go back into single call .. that is, you cannot separate phone calls after answering a second call on call waiting .. :(

2. there is no exact time of received messages .. only shows “2 weeks ago”
