*shrug* if sprint/palm pulls some crap like lojacking the phone ala Verizon to block tethering and stop me from useing the data I already pay for I will simple stay with my unlocked iPhone and watch sprint slowly fade into nothing and take Palm with it instead of supporting them with my money (which is pretty likely thing no matter what).
When, WHEN will this greedy ass insane companies learn... Don't fuck with people if you wan to win over time. People are sick of AT&T and their BS, just ask any current edge user. People will jump ship but you have to make it worth their while. Palm is not apple, a shiny device will not move the masses only the tech entrenched, and spring can almost completely hose that audience, the very important influencer audience, by playing games.
They need to come in a supper low but robust price point bundling voice and data/sms and load on as much iPhone crush function as service they can. But will never happen, they are to busy swilling their own koolaid and overvaluing their bundled bits that nobody cares about (NFL TV BS or whatever, the difference between 600, 1000 and unlimited minutes to most of their customers is meaningless, unlimited data doesn't make most users use any more same with sms but nobody will wakes the hell smell the coffee and stop trying to insanely over price bits).
You here about these $50 all inclusive deals from the subs, if they are smart they try an tie that to the Pre and load on the usage aspect, and have a real simply everything plan instead the current bullshit joke matrix of complexity. They could ride that to the top and yeah they would suffer a few heavy users (and wine bitterly about it) but the swell could be huge and that is what sprint needs badly to survive. Most user usage patterns would not change and they would cash in on the volume and maybe post something then other failure next year.
I no it will never happen though, this is going to be it for Palm in the US and probable for sprint. I hope I'm wrong but I just can't see them making the right moves, the CEO's so self impressed commercials tell me can't get over the branding enough really compete (and never mind fundamental problems like not being able to use data and voice on the pre at the same time um welcome back to edge 3 year back now).
On the plus side maybe when sprint kacks off Verizon will bring on whatever is lef of a refitted Pre. Sure Verizon data pricing is ugly beyond belief but at least their network is pretty solid for voice (at least compared to AT&T in my area).
