Palm Pre: Apps I Run All the Time
The Palm Pre is powering my hectic life here at Mobile Tech Manor, and it’s doing a great job. The seamless multi-tasking is a joy to behold, and is the grease keeping my day flowing. Today I needed a navigation system and the Sprint Navigation app did a great job getting me from Point A to B. I am often getting asked what apps I run on the Pre all the time, so this is my short list:

Palm Pre apps I have running all the time
Left to right, the apps I have running virtually all the time on the Palm Pre:
- Pre Calendar- I track four different calendars, including some that belong to others that are shared
- Pre Mail- I have the Mail app open all the time and work with two different email accounts. One is POP and the other is a GMail account.
- Remember the Milk- I use the browser-based app to track my tasks. I use the page optimized for the iPhone which works well.
- Spaz- this Twitter app is in the App Catalog and works well for me.
- Pre Clock- not pictured. I often run the Clock application to display a big digital clock while the Pre sits on the Touchstone charger.

pr”E”-mail… I get it, haha!
Nice list, JK. I haven’t gotten into the habit of leaving webpages open…should try that. Thanks.
I leave Google Tasks open, which is open on my desktop Gmail and iGoogle pages. Like you, I use the mobile site. From there, I sometimes use Google News, Google Reader, and if I need to do a search on Gmail, I can do it at the site. I have Google Tasks on my launcher, which you can do when it’s open by hitting Web > Page > Add to Launcher.
I also sometimes leave SMS open because I communicate with my family a lot that way. I also put their contacts on my launcher.
I’m also pleased that I have my work Outlook Exchange syncing with the Pre.
I also put the web icon on the taskbar, and took off the contacts because contacts I just use the not-quite-Universal Search when I need one.
Is the Pre your main phone now? What makes it more appealing than some of the others you have used?
I am using it more than any other currently. I like the multi-tasking, it’s a good phone and the web stuff is superb. Sure it could be better but it’s pretty darn good.
I just inherited my daughter’s old iPod Touch, and as I expected, I had been really missing a dedicated reader. The eReader in Classic (the Palm OS emulator) doesn’t have as good of font options, and not being able to use the hole screen is a drag.
There are some cute things in the Touch, essentially, it’s my new Kindle and eReader and Barnes and Noble eReader. Oh, and I never got Audible up on the Pre Classic, but I did get most of my music over there.
Hi James,
I love your articles on your site so far, keep up the great work!
I noticed the beautiful wallpaper on your Pre, what is the name of your wallpaper, the night/moon light one? I would love get your wallpaper on my Palm Pre as well as I’ve been looking for a nice dark wallpaper and yours is the best I’ve seen thus far!
Thanks in advance!
Edmund
I was a Spaz user, but I’ve switched back to Tweed since the most recent update. It seems to actually do the notifications properly all the time now, and the different views for the profiles, conversation, etc all work really well.
