Palm Pre and Pixi Updates in the Cards for webOS 1.3.5
I missed the Palm earnings call yesterday due to some light travel, but aside from the sales figures and financial numbers there was talk about webOS. Specifically, Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein mentioned that webOS 1.3.5 is coming soon, says PreCentral. And more important than the version number is what this update will bring:
- Confirmation of more usable storage for application installation — currently, webOS limits apps to fixes space /var partition
- Better Wi-Fi and application performance — I’m happy with the Wi-Fi on my Pre, but better app performance would be welcome!
- Improved battery life — definitely something that handset owners have wanted from the beginning. I bought a higher capacity battery to help in this area.
- A faster overall experience on the Palm Pixi
While I doubt that all of the update details would be spilled in an investor Q&A session, I’d still like to see some improvements to the browser among other things. And I’m hoping that the new web-based Ares SDK attracts some major development names to the webOS platform. It’s nice to hear that Palm is addressing the application storage limit — that could dovetail very nicely with a potential surge in applications for webOS.

I’m just hoping that 1.3.5 fixes the myriad of bugs I’ve seen in 1.3.1. But if it’s not out by Sunday, I’ll be disabling the UpdateDaemon until after the holidays, it’ll just be too hectic to deal with for the next few weeks.
Have you tried out the WordPress app yet, by the way?
I haven’t tried the WP app and likely won’t. Since it’s not an official app from WP, it requires a plug-in on the server AFAIK and I don’t think our webmaster will take to kindly to that. :( I can use the WP app on the iPhone because it’s from WP and doesn’t require anything special to work with the server.
Ah, wasn’t aware of that, I don’t use WordPress for anything and it doesn’t say anything about that in the description.
Actually, a new 99 cent WordPress app called “Post’er” was just released in the Palm App Store this week. It uses XML-RPC and doesn’t require any special plug-in. I downloaded it and it really works pretty nicely.
It is only for creating/editing posts, at least so far. It doesn’t yet have any administration features.
Good to know, but I don’t do much post creation / editing on the phone so it won’t help me there. I mainly use it for reading comments and occasionally scheduling posts.
Wasn’t Flash support supposed to be coming soon?
Adobe is now saying early next year for when Flash will be out.
I hope 1.3.5 is coming out out tomorrow. It should be out by tomorrow hopefly
