Paid apps appear in Android Market- Quickoffice debuts
The Android Market has been a little stale since it launched last year, with the free apps being a collection of mostly boring programs with a few exceptions. We expected that to change with the appearance of paid apps in the Android Market and it’s looking like that is the case.
Quickoffice is a full-featured office suite that provides complete Office 2007 document viewing capabilities along with a file manager for the Android platform. The suite has long been available for other platforms and it’s great news to hear it’s now available on the Android platform from the Market, even lacking editing features. 2 obvious failures:
- It only supports .doc and .xls (no .docx and no .xlsx).
- It does not allow any editing.
That’s really a feature lacking software.
I have to agree there. A Viewer Software is far from being a full featured Office Suite.
I think it is quite surprising that Android is pretty much the only mobile operating system that doesn´t natively support viewing office documents these days.
How can they claim Office 2007 compatibility if they can’t read .docx or .xlxs?
I think you’re better off promoting Windows Mobile to people who are after decent Office compatibility on a phone.
