The original OQO model 01 was $1899/1999 depending on OS version. When they introduced the model 01+ (at the same price) they reduced the price of the 01 a couple of times. It must be a fire sale because their site indicates that there is only one config of the 01 that is still available, the rest are sold out.

I’ve used both, the performance is way, way better on the 01+ than the 01. I wouldn’t buy an O1, it’s pretty slow. The 01+ is fast. I assume this is due to the extra memory.

Looking at the website, adding Tablet OS to the 01+ is only $100 which is reasonable.

The other $800 is for an extra 10GB on the hard drive and an extra 256MB or RAM. Which I think is an outrageous sum…. unless the $1299 for the old model is a fire sale to clear stocks.

I would love a OQO type device, but would prefer a slightly larger display – say 8″ XGA.

I suspect that OQO have just priced themselves out of the market. How can they justify a $900 price increase just for installing the Tablet OS, particularly when they are still using the Transmeta processor?

Even as gadget addicted as I am I can easily resist the ‘temptation’. Besides, the DualCor cPC looks like a far more valuable device at only $1,500.
