OneNote on a Mac? Tell Nadyne why you want to see it
I know I’ve said this once before (many times, actually), but for our newer readers sake, bear with me while I repeat this: "OneNote is the best piece of software to come from Microsoft, in my opinion." Of course, that means nothing to Mac users…or does it?
Nadyne Mielke is a user experience researcher at Microsoft’s Macintosh Business Unit and she’s hearing more and more about users wanting OneNote for the Mac. If you’d like to see it or if you just want to sing the praises of OneNote from a Windows perspective, why not hop over to Nadyne’s blog: she’s looking for feedback on why folks would want to see OneNote on a Mac. I’d also love to see a way for some OneNote Mobile functionality on the iPhone and of course, inking in OneNote is a fantastic experience when you need to search those notes. Just for the record; I’ll be using OneNote again for this week’s fantasy football draft, just like last year when I almost won it all. ;)

I do appreciate what OneNote does on the PC, but really, Mac users have tons of great apps that do this sort of thing already. Just look at these I found with a simple search for Notebook on Versiontracker…
http://www.versiontracker.com/php/qs.php?mode=basic&action=search&str=notebook&srchArea=macosx%7Cmacosx-all&submit=Go
I myself use Yojimbo and Circus Ponies Notebook for all my text, URL, graphics, audio, and video that I want to save, and search and export.
I guess I am always willing to learn, so I ask, what is it that would make OneNote such a benefit for Mac users over these apps?
Tim – That’s exactly my question. :)
Doesn’t OneNote require a touchscreen? I thought it was all about the ink. Hmmm… has MS just leaked that a touchy-Mac is on the way?
Mike, OneNote works very well with tablets (touchscreen or active), but does not require tablet support, you can use it on any computer.
Will post this over at Nadyne’s…but one reason I’d like to see a Mac version of OneNote besides the fact that it’s a great app, is that I use OneNote every day at work on my TabletPC and would to have the option to use it on my MacBook (and maybe one day on a Mac TPC…).
Tim & Nadyne: sounds like we need a good feature comparison / review of OneNote and the Mac alternatives. Added to my To Do list. ;)
I think this is missing a point a little. We use OneNote heavily in team environments and having access to it on Mac would mean easy sharing of information (without having to save it to PDF or something equally annoying) and, even more importantly, allow use of the OneNote collaboartion features. On that note, most reviews of OneNote I have come across online focus on a single-user experience completely ignoring the strength of OneNote when it comes to collaboration. Asides from that, the built-in synchronization feature is beautiful and integration with Sharepoint (for companies that use it) is a major plus as well.
Heh, no, I didn’t leak anything. I do like that you think that I’m that much in the know, though! But OneNote doesn’t require a touchscreen.
