Office 2007 SP2 Breaking Corporate Email
The Microsoft Office 2007 SP2 update was only released yesterday and is a major upgrade for that package. Most users, individual and corporate, tend to apply Office service packs right away as they aren’t released very often and are usually rock solid.
We’re already seeing in our comments that a number of corporate users are experiencing a major bug in SP2 that affects the ability to access the Global Address Book, effectively rendering corporate email useless. One corporate user says the problem went away when Office 2007 SP2 was removed. I suspect we’ll see a rapid fix for this from Microsoft. I’m surprised a bug this big got through to release.

Any enterprise admin that rolls out any patch or service pack right away should be fired. I doubt many corporate prod environments have this SP installed. I would bet a few dev environments blew up though.
I had the same issue with My outlook being seen as Offline when I installed the update. Look at your computers internet filter. That was the culprit here. It was blocking my connection. Call up your internet filter company to work on the issue.
That should fix your issue.
Yeah, I would really love to know which corporation already rolled out this SP2, so I can apply for the new vacancy there. :)
Has anyone else had issues with their send to onenote dissapearing after installing the update?
Yes i have the same issue, also I have noticed the desktop alerts have stopped working! Even if you go into the settings and hit the preview button nothing happens!
Nothing happens? You must have typed XYZZY.
Everything is fine on my Exchange 03 server.
Desktop Alerts have stopped working for me too after installing Office SP2 :(
It’s been working fine for me in my environment. I’ve not seen any SP2-specific issues, and I’m in the middle of an Exchange 2007 / Office 2007 roll-out… about 50 systems into a 115-system deployment.
I checked the workstations on which I downloaded and installed Office 2007 SP2. No problems. They can access the Global Address List without issue and they report good performance. Hmmm… FWIW, this is an SBS 2003 environment.
I noticed the same issue. On clients running Windows XP SP3, and Office 2007 SP1, they are able to access GAL without any problems. Apply the Office 2007 SP2 and their access to the Global Address list is gone, with Outlook complaining of not being online. I have the same issue with Vista clients as well.
Removal of the Service Pack enables the GAL.
Installed SP2 just minutes after it appeared on Microsoft website. Absolutely no issues of any kind (outlook/excel/word).
People must have screwed up their systems. I suggest that before yelling on Microsoft, test it on clean system first.
Possible Solutions :)

I’ve tried method 4 but haven’t had any luck yet and I don’t really want to try the other methods just yet as it requires a reboot of the exchange server so will leave that for now. But good luck!
I tried the method 4 but no use.
Before doing anything and now, I can ping the server by using computer and domain name like Exchange.MyCompany.local successfully.
And I tried to do the same thing in a new computer, still no lock.
When I creating exchange account at client side, Windows login window is shown to let me input my domain username and password (seems to be ok for connection), and then error again with the same message box.
Resolved!
Method 3
If you use an SBS server that returns a FQDN that is not routable from the client computer, you can resolve this problem by following these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMSExchangeSAParameters
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
Type NSPI Target Server, and then press ENTER.
Right-click NSPI Target Server, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type the Netbios name or the FQDN of your SBS server, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart the Exchange System Attendant service and other dependent services.
I hate myself…
that method 3 resolved the problem just for a second. I added the exchange account successfully. But when I start outlook, the same message box shows again. After I delete the account, I cannot add the exchange account again…
Problem solved for me by applying hotfix:

With the new Office (the 2007) design, look & feel, Microsoft have made a giant leap. True that it takes time to get use to the new ribbon and to get around quickly.. But once you are familiar with it, you rock!
We do a lot of researches on the web, and using Excel macros,
we have improved our research speed in 30%. That huge!!
Using OneNote have improved our research information control (nothing get lost now) and with the sharing files abilities, now everyone can contribute to the project.
So to summary it all, we are more then happy with the tools that comes in the Office 2007.
We looking forward to the new one… ;)
With the SP2 support for open source files,
our CRM improved since we don’t have to “fight”
with our clients anymore :)
The 2007 was a great investment with benefits to us
Thank you for the post.
Happy to learn new things every day.
