Office 2007 SP2 Breaking Corporate Email
The Microsoft Office 2007 SP2 update was only released yesterday and is a major upgrade for that package. Most users, individual and corporate, tend to apply Office service packs right away as they aren’t released very often and are usually rock solid.
We’re already seeing in our comments that a number of corporate users are experiencing a major bug in SP2 that affects the ability to access the Global Address Book, effectively rendering corporate email useless. One corporate user says the problem went away when Office 2007 SP2 was removed. I suspect we’ll see a rapid fix for this from Microsoft. I’m surprised a bug this big got through to release.

Any enterprise admin that rolls out any patch or service pack right away should be fired. I doubt many corporate prod environments have this SP installed. I would bet a few dev environments blew up though.
I had the same issue with My outlook being seen as Offline when I installed the update. Look at your computers internet filter. That was the culprit here. It was blocking my connection. Call up your internet filter company to work on the issue.
That should fix your issue.
Yeah, I would really love to know which corporation already rolled out this SP2, so I can apply for the new vacancy there. :)
Has anyone else had issues with their send to onenote dissapearing after installing the update?
Yes i have the same issue, also I have noticed the desktop alerts have stopped working! Even if you go into the settings and hit the preview button nothing happens!
Nothing happens? You must have typed XYZZY.
Everything is fine on my Exchange 03 server.
Desktop Alerts have stopped working for me too after installing Office SP2 :(
It’s been working fine for me in my environment. I’ve not seen any SP2-specific issues, and I’m in the middle of an Exchange 2007 / Office 2007 roll-out… about 50 systems into a 115-system deployment.
I checked the workstations on which I downloaded and installed Office 2007 SP2. No problems. They can access the Global Address List without issue and they report good performance. Hmmm… FWIW, this is an SBS 2003 environment.
I noticed the same issue. On clients running Windows XP SP3, and Office 2007 SP1, they are able to access GAL without any problems. Apply the Office 2007 SP2 and their access to the Global Address list is gone, with Outlook complaining of not being online. I have the same issue with Vista clients as well.
Removal of the Service Pack enables the GAL.
